A socially diverse group of jurors debate the case of Lester Carmichael, an African-American high school principal accused of buying crack cocaine, confronting their prejudices surrounding race and the criminal justice system in Joe Sutton's thought-provoking play. The LA Theatre Works cast of Christine Avila, Barbara Bosson, Shannon Cochrane, Ella Joyce, Kevin Kilner, and Amy Pietz turn a well-worn scenario into highly charged affair; their passionate performances make the dialogue crisp and tense as they argue over Carmichael's fate and, symbolically, the entwining structures of institutional racism, law enforcement, and societal ignorance.
