In the second episode of the LIFE, MONEY and FOOTBALL podcast, I sat down with Eric Dungy, Oregon Duck and USF Bull football player, son of a Super Bowl winning Head Coach and now a successful Real Estate Advisor.

Eric takes us through his life's journey from growing up as Tony Dungy’s son being around some great NFL players and teams. Playing on one of the best high school football teams in the country with Aaron Murray and Orson Charles who both became Georgia Bulldogs. Pursuing his dream of playing in the NFL at Oregon where he was a part of a National Championship, Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl team and finishing his college career at USF. Eric eventually realized the NFL was not going to be an option for him.

Eric had opportunities to go into coaching with the Philadelphia Eagles but he decided to pursue something he was passionate about – real estate. Once he in real estate he has built a niche serving athletes and entertainers in the Tampa Bay area.

Along the way, we touch on topics like:

  • What it was like to have a Super Bowl winning Head Coach as a father, who was just like any other dad.
  • How football didn’t come natural to him and what it was like to bloom later in high school.
  • College football recruiting process/experience and how Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) and the Transfer Portal have changed all of it.
  • What it was like to pick Oregon over his dream school Florida State.
  • How the Oregon Ducks experience was unlike anything else in the country under Chip Kelly.
  • Why he decided to transfer to USF from Oregon.
  • Looking back on his career and feeling disappointed with how it went and realizing the NFL wasn't going to happen for him and how he handled that.
  • How he worked through the process of figuring out what to do after he had spent most of his life working towards a career as a football player.

Plus a few key pieces of advice like:

  • Everyday control what you can control.
    • Find the right balance for you between taking football seriously and enjoying the experience. Both help you play your best on the field.
  • Find the one person you can lean on to make the right decisions during your football career – parent, pastor or coach.

I believe Eric’s story includes several lessons that football players today can learn from. I hope you enjoy the episode.
