Since its debut in 1991, it’s carved out a space that centered beauty unlike any other publication, especially among the big dogs like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, which leaned more into fashion and culture.
But let’s be real — even those legacy mags often gave us “diversity” in air quotes: a token here, a one-off there. That’s why Jessica’s appointment is no small thing. Putting a Black woman at the helm of Allure doesn’t just mean better beauty stories — it means a deeper reflection of who we really are.
Because Jessica brings all of herself to the table — her love of beauty, yes, but also real estate, investment property, home ownership… Prosperity in all its forms. So now we see ourselves reflected not just in our skin and coils, but in our ambition and legacy too. That’s how we break the glass ceiling.
