  • How to handle the money (nonprofit)

    Oddly enough, non profits run very much like “for profits” with one notable exception:

    💰 The “profit” (yes, 501c3 entities should “gain” money each month) doesn’t go to shareholders, it rolls back into ministry.

    (As a result, non profits complete different tax forms, etc…)

    🤔

    So, in this talk we walk through a similar financial framework as we did for “for profit” organizations (see the previous talk).

    And, we highlight five commonalities between the two…

    Find your groove, get a plan, and “build it like the ant.”

    Proverbs 30:24-28,

    24 Four things on earth are small,
    yet they are extremely wise:
    25 Ants are creatures of little strength,
    yet they store up their food in the summer;
    26 hyraxes are creatures of little power,
    yet they make their home in the crags;
    27 locusts have no king,
    yet they advance together in ranks;
    28 a lizard can be caught with the hand,
    yet it is found in kings’ palaces.


    Notice verse 24– they are small, yet continue… and then have WAY MORE than enough…

    In like manner, start where you are, with the goal in mind…

    It’s easy, especially in the beginning, to get overwhelmed with how far you want things to go. However, remember that the time will pass anyway.

    Whether or not you choose to intentionally do something with it or not is entirely up to you.

    Make the most of it and leverage the time while you do the great work you are doing….

  • Serve people long-term by having clearly defined next best steps
    2025/07/02

    Most content creators and communicators think only in terms of finding new leads— first time customers. That’s a valid source of business, and we should find pathways for people to come in closer and learn about how we can serve them at a higher with our ideas…

    But, it’s important to provide people clear next steps to continue moving forward. That is, don’t overlooking EXISTING customers.

    💥

    If you have a strategy to lead people “all the way” through your ecosystem, many of them will take the journey with you.

    An industry stat suggests 10% of your current clients will pay you 10X what they currently pay if you show them the value.

    Furthermore, it’s often easier to convert existing clients— and keep them— than it is to find new clients.

  • Who will pay for your ideas?
    2025/06/25

    Three factors affect your capacity to grow your online business


    1️⃣ SERVE

    = you must consistently add value to others

    2️⃣ SYSTEMS

    = you need processes that continue moving people forward, automatically, such that the next person into your product / program gets the same experience as the first

    To be clear, you are serving PEOPLE…

    … but you need PROCESSES that help them understand what to do next AND lead them there.

    (i.e., you CAN go high-tech AND high-touch at the same time— and that should be part of your goal.)

    3️⃣ SCALEABILITY

    = your ability to add value using automation, when you’re not in the room with them

    If you cannot scale, you will continue—

    ⏰ trade dollars for hours, thereby limiting your income

    📌 find yourself tied to a specific location, thereby limiting geographical movement and/or travel

    🫲 be forced to do everything in person…


    With these three elements in place, you can effectively run “the business side” of it.

  • Flip the script (in your head)

    In order for people to do business with us (so we can get paid for what we know), THEY need to know a few things…

    ⚙️ What you do— the problem you solve & the potential you lead people to

    📣 They must be able to repeat that in their own words, so they can remember you

    🚀 They must believe you have a clear path that can help them “level up” and get results, that if they walk your path they will get to where they want to be…

    Furthermore, we must remember that these four things usually don’t close the sale.

    ❌ Knowledge— facts don’t usually sell on their own. People can find ANYTHING they want to know with a quick online search.

    ❌ Products— the same content can be delivered in numerous ways BY YOU at different price points… so a “book” or “course” is not the difference-maker.

    ❌ What you do, your role— there are numerous “life coaches” or “trainers” or “teachers” or whatever…

    ❌ Company name or certification— they don’t mean a whole lot and simply create noise

    ✅ The differentiator is YOU and ACCESS to you…

    If people trust you, they will do business with you.

    People do not do business with Knowledge, Products, What you do / roles, Companies, Certifications, etc…

    People do business with PEOPLE.

    Why is your content SO POWERFUL (it really is), so much that you KNOW it will help people “level-up” their business, their parenting, their fitness, their spiritual growth, their [insert whatever your topic of expertise is]…

    … yet they don’t take action?

    🤷‍♂️

    Here are three more elements to consider— as well as tips to overcoming these objections.

    🎯 You haven’t identified the ideal customer for the product or program you are selling.

    🤔 You haven’t clearly stated the offer— so the prospect is confused or lacks adequate info…

    💥 You don’t have credibility.


    Don’t view these— or the three friction points we mentioned in the previous episode— as ONLY obstacles. View them as opportunities to level-up your communication and serve people at a higher level.

  • 3 reasons people don’t buy your stuff

    There are at least six reasons people don’t buy your “ideas” in the thought leader / information space. In this episode we walk through three, followed by three more in the next.


    Here are the first three…


    🧭 They’re at a different place than what you’re offering. That is, they may not be a prospect for your goods or services.

    (If this is the case, don’t push them… but do encourage and serve them.)

    💭 They can’t envision themselves doing it— that is, they don’t think they can get results for what you’re selling / sharing / suggesting.

    ⏰ They don’t think they have TIME to do the work— or, it’s a matter of timing…


    For each one, we clearly state the problem they have AND provide you with a clear solution for communicating your way through it.
