Listen in for a special edition of Bristol Data Stories where we talk to Professor Jean Golding OBE, Emeritus Professor at the University of Bristol, after whom the Jean Golding Institute was named.

Jean is the founder of the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) study, also known as the ‘Children of the 90s’. ALSPAC is a longitudinal birth cohort study that recruited more than 14,500 women in the early 1990s. It closely followed the lives of the mothers and their babies to reveal novel understandings of how the environment and genes impact health and wellbeing. This study continues to collect a wealth of biological, behavioural, and social data from over three generations.

In this episode, Jean defines her career journey, reflects on surprise outcomes from the ALSPAC study, and comments on how ‘data’ has changed over time.
