The group is part of the NC Veteran’s Writing Alliance Foundation. Each of these groups has the goal of supporting veterans as they heal from their war experiences. 

Ron Toler of Brothers and Sisters Like These and the NC Veterans Writing Alliance Foundation, talks to Elizabeth Heaney, a former civilian counselor on military bases who understands the unique pressures and challenges facing service members and families. 

In addition to being a licensed clinical mental health counselor, Elizabeth is also an author and an instructor for the NC Veterans Writing Alliance.

Join Dr. Bruce Kelly, Assistant Chief of Primary Care at the Charles George VA Medical Center and Lead for the Creative Writing Program, and Joseph Bathanti, McFarlane Family Distinguished Professor of Interdisciplinary Education at Appalachian State University, former Poet Laureate of North Carolina and co-founder of the Charles George VA Medical Center’s Creative Writing Program, to hear how they created a novel creative writing program for Vietnam combat veterans with a focus on capturing stories through narrative and poetry to find the voices war had taken from them.
