  • Ryan Ellington - Black Iced Coffee
    2024/09/13

Studio favorite returns for a bounce around episode. Topics include approaching 30, what you want for gifts changes as you age, and a stage persona switch for Danny that while Ryan supports he can not himself jump on board for.

A few Steve's and a check in on an old ex girlfriend rounds out this Black Iced Coffee episode.

  • Danielle Mishkit - Borrow the Bones
    2024/09/04

Hooker Boy Studios hits the road and talks with Danielle Mishkit, the singer and co founder of the new Vermont based band Borrow the Bones.

We get to chat with Danielle about the band's first live performance from this past weekend, she tells a story of a National Anthem where she forgot the words, and how as a kid she realized she was good at singing but also worried if it was just her ego telling her that.

Danielle also tells us about the band's name, and it's a really great lesson for life (I said that part. Not her)

Borrow the Bones will have a website soon, and this section will be updated. Danielle says it will be borrowthebones.com

  • Perry Eaton - Something in the River
    2024/08/30

Lead Singer of the band Beeef and Co-Founder of Allston Pudding Perry Eaton comes by and asks Danny to recreate a Taco Bell Cheesy Gordita Crunch.

Perry takes us back to the first Taco Bell trips as a child where it was a Taco Bell/KFC hybrid. We get the classic order, an explanation of what a KFC Twister was, and how Perry's affection for a "secret sauce" might actually just be Ranch Dressing.

Beeef will be releasing a new album next week on Friday September, 6th. We hear about the formation of Beeef, what it takes to make a band stay together for 10 years, and as a special treat at the end we get the full release of the *FUTURE BOSTON BRUINS PUCK DROP SONG "Something in the River"

    *Hopefully

  • Amma Marfo - Fast Food Buffets
    2024/08/14

Comedian and Writer Amma Marfo comes by and asks Danny to recreate a now discontinued dessert pizza from Pizza Hut.

Amma is now gluten intolerant so that adds a layer when creating a pizza, but we get schooled on the glow up that Cauliflower has had and how that is used for crust. Amma is aware it is not as good as regular pizza dough.

Amma also tells us about a family visit and the two discuss the middle years of the parent/child relationship, the process of renewing a green card, and how Massachusetts State Representative Kevin Honan's wife paid for some supplies Amma was grabbing for volunteer work she does. She didn't even tell Amma her name, just did a good deed and when asked said, "it's not important."

(If google is accurate: Thanks for the supplies, Colleen!)

  • Ahmed Bharoocha - Bring a Brick
    2024/08/02

Comedian and Actor Ahmed Bharoocha comes by and asks Danny to make Ohn No Khauk Swe (Burmese Chicken Coconut Soup)

Ahmed gives us a lesson on where exactly Burma is, and along the way explains a little of his family history. It's a mixed bag of cultures and religions (some of which don't get along) but rather than push himself into one specific box, Ahmed has found himself more comfortable blending his worlds even if some people say "you can't be both."

We learn a little about Ahmed's children as well, and how he's the day-to-day caretaker. A father in that position, he's heard all the classic comments like "mom's day off?" It can be frustrating, but rather than get frustrated he leans into it for a personal giggle, all the while knowing with his kids is where he feels most comfortable.

If you've ever thought about trying stand-up or looking for pointers, Ahmed will be teaching a class both in person and virtually. More info can be found at ahmedscomedyschool.com

Ahmed will be in Worcester, MA, tonight (8/2) at Ralph's Rock Diner. Tickets can be found through this link. Ahmed will also be at The Dugout Cafe in Boston, MA, tomorrow (8/3) for Mendoza Line Comedy. Tickets for that can be purchased here

  • Alyssa Palladino - Reconnect the Pieces
    2024/07/29

Food Blogger Alyssa Palladino (@bottomlyssbites) comes by and asks Danny for "Chicken Parm or Eggplant Parm." Why not both?

We jump in with Alyssa telling us how people pronounce her name incorrectly, but not the part of her name you'd think. The two throw out a few nostalgic snacks, how some have fallen off (or never hit the mark to begin with), and Alyssa shares a beloved flavor of ice cream that would be buried deep on a "Most Popular Ice Cream Flavors" list.

Alyssa shifts and tells us about a childhood split between two parents. Yes, there was a divorce, but up until age 9 she lived with her mother. After a tragic accident where her mother passed, Alyssa and her siblings found themselves living with their father and step-mother. At peace with it today, she does look at younger family members who are now the age she was for this traumatic event and think "maybe a 9 year old shouldn't have to deal with that," as well as knowing this has a role in her day to day anxiety.

  • Vivian Dang - The Dreaded "i" Word
    2024/07/24

Food Blogger Vivian Dang comes by and asks Danny to make Thit Kho (braised pork and eggs)

Vivian starts with talking about the dinner entertainment she'll usually watch when eating, and how her video of choice makes it so she never has dinner alone. Vivian tells us too about how her love of food came from a mother that always cooked, and even though she now enjoys life as a food blogger, she herself isn't too big on cooking.

The conversation shifts when Vivian shares a magical 10 minutes she had away from her phone, and the two discuss how she never really has time to relax. Even when she does find the time, Vivian is still thinking about the next work thing to take care of, and after thinking about work for most of her life it's hard to come up for fresh air.
