Disturbing Cases of Guillotined Heads - Frankenstein Re-animation

  • サマリー

  • Disturbing Cases of Severed Heads
    News of the Times Episode 53 | 1880 - 1885
In today’s episode we dip further into disturbing tales with three stories where scientists of the time, inspired by Marry Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein, look to re-animate heads of criminals who faced the guillotine.

In Victorian society, there was no punishment worse than having one’s body interfered with in unnatural experimentation.

Our first story from 1880 is a crime so infamous and disturbing, it was referenced in initial criminal behaviour medical annals for decades after his death.

The second case from 1884 of the murder of a policeman’s widow, seemed to have more to do with the possibility of further scientific experiments on the heels of the previously mentioned crime. Dog lovers, look away.

In our last story of a treble murderer from 1885, the scientist involved in the creepy re-animation of the head would, for over a decade, swear that he had managed to bring back consciousness to the decapitated head although he had initially promised he would not due to the horror that would entail.

For those who like the weird and strange, (or stranger in this case!), check out our further particulars section at the end of the episode where we recount a house, under a barrage of stones which come from an unseen hand where the source, despite intense efforts, cannot be traced. The onslaught lasted for days.

Three creepy Halloween tales involving guillotined heads is today’s episode.
    Hosted by Robin Coles.
