  • Episode 9 - Loop Movies
    2025/08/02
Episode 9: Loop Movies, Martha Stewart’s Sentence & Bill Murray Driving a Groundhog

🎙️ Welcome back to Do You Even Binge?

    🗓️ On This Day...
2004: Martha Stewart is sentenced to 5 months in prison and 5 months of house arrest. Contrary to popular belief, she wasn’t convicted of insider trading—her charges were obstruction of justice and lying to federal investigators. Ironically, had she stayed silent, she may have walked free. Instead, her own words took her down.

    🎒 Main Topic:
This week, we're stuck in a loop—on purpose—as we dive into time loop movies. From comedies to thrillers to rom-coms and meta-horror, we explore how characters relive the same day over and over (and sometimes forget they’re even doing it).We break down iconic entries in the genre, including:
    • Groundhog Day – Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell, a snowstorm in Punxsutawney, and that pesky Ned Ryerson (BING!).
    • Looper – Joseph Gordon-Levitt meets Bruce Willis (literally), with diner scenes, time paradoxes, and Paul Dano disintegrating.
    • 50 First Dates – Drew Barrymore forgets, Adam Sandler remembers, and Sean Astin flexes.
    • Palm Springs – Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti bring existential wedding weirdness to the desert.
    • Meet Cute – Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson in a looping NYC love story.
    • The Final Girls – 80s slasher tropes get trapped on repeat.
    • When We First Met – Adam Devine, Alexandra Daddario, and a time-traveling photo booth.
    • Russian Doll – Natasha Lyonne dies over and over in NYC.
    Plus:

🎮 Game Time! “Whose Lip Is It Anyway?”

Stick around for clips, chaos, and comedy as we go round and round. It’s bingeing, but with meaning… kind of.

1991: Boyz n the Hood hits theaters, launching the careers of Ice Cube and Cuba Gooding Jr., and giving America a raw, powerful portrait of life in South Central LA.

    🎒 Main Topic:
This week we dive deep into the twisted, brilliant, and darkly hilarious world of the Coen Brothers. From bowling alleys to botched heists to existential dread in the American Midwest, we’re breaking down our combined Top 6 Coen movies:

  • Episode 6 - Government Cheese and Felipe's Birthday
    2025/07/12
Episode 6: Miracle on 34th Street, Press Your Luck Scam, Government Cheese + Felipe’s Favorite Movie quotes.

🎙️ Welcome back to Do You Even Binge?

🗓️ On This Day...1947: Miracle on 34th Street, yes, the Christmas classic, was released... in June.
Starring John Payne and Maureen O’Hara, the film was completely stolen by little Natalie Wood and Santa Claus himself, Edmund Gwenn.

🗓️ Also on this day: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is released, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore.

🎒 1984: The Press Your Luck scandal.
Michael Larson memorized the game board’s “random” light patterns and walked away with a record $110,237 (over $330K today). His episode never aired again. Larson wasn’t just a trivia whiz, he was a lifelong scam artist. We dig into how he beat the system, ran various get-rich-quick schemes, and eventually died on the run in Florida in 1999.

📺 What We’re Currently Bingeing (Together):

    Government Cheese (Apple TV+)
Starring David Oyelowo, Simone Missick, and Bokeem WoodbineWe talk:
    • The look, the style, the camera work
    • The very 1980s vibe
    • And yes... the actual government cheese
🧀 In the 1980s, the U.S. had a 500-million-pound surplus of processed cheese due to dairy subsidies and began distributing it through food banks. Later, fast food chains helped move that cheese with new ultra-cheesy menu items. Capitalism is wild.

🎂 This Week’s Challenge: Quotes from Felipe’s Favorite Movies
It’s Felipe’s birthday! And Lesa is putting him to the test...She reads quotes from some of his favorite movies — can he name them all?
    1. Amadeus – Salieri’s heartbreaking monologue
    2. Blade Runner – Rutger Hauer’s “Tears in rain”
    3. The Temptations Movie – “Ain’t nobody coming to see you, Otis!”
    4. Groundhog Day – “Okay, campers, rise and shine...”
    5. Snatch – The infamous “nemesis” speech
    6. Casino – “Triple Gemini. You can’t trust a snake.”
    7. The Royal Tenenbaums – “Burgers and the cemetery?”
    8. The Grand Budapest Hotel – “I want whatever cream they used at the morgue.”

That’s it for this episode, see you next week for more clips, chaos, and what were bingeing.

  • Episode 5 - Wes Anderson Movies
    2025/07/05
Episode 5: The Beatles’ Missing Drummer + Deep dive into Wes Anderson movies?

🎙️ Welcome back to Do You Even Binge?

We kick things off On This Day in 1964:
The Beatles launch their world tour… without Ringo Starr. Instead, Jimmie Nicol steps in as a last-minute replacement and lives 10 surreal days as a Beatle — before vanishing into obscurity. Fame ruined him. And no, that’s not an exaggeration.

Then we get into what we’ve been watching:
🎬 The Phoenician Scheme, Wes Anderson’s newest film starring Benicio Del Toro, Michael Cera, and Mia Threapleton. Beautiful to look at, but did it leave us feeling anything?

    🎥 MAIN TOPIC:
Wes Anderson’s full filmography — the rise, the peak, and the slow-motion fall.We revisit:
    • Bottle Rocket (1996) — the box office bomb that almost sent Owen Wilson to the Marines
    • Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, Life Aquatic, Darjeeling Limited — peak era Wes
    • Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, Grand Budapest Hotel
    • And then... Isle of Dogs, French Dispatch, Asteroid City, and Henry Sugar
    • Finally: The Phoenician Scheme (2025) — the possible breaking point
    We ask:
🌀 Has Wes lost touch with emotion?
🤖 Are his actors just beautifully styled robots now?
🎨 Can a movie look too good for its own good?Join Felipe and Lesa for clips, breakdowns, behind-the-scenes facts, and a lot of cinematic heartbreak.

Welcome back to Do You Even Binge? — the show where Felipe and Lesa deep dive into what we’re watching and what’s worth skipping. This week, we say “I do” to wedding movies… but not all of them should’ve made it down the aisle.

Leonard Maltin’s first-ever appearance on Entertainment Tonight! Plus, a look back at his incredible legacy, from publishing his first film review book at just 17 to how IMDb changed the game forever. We share our own personal connections to his work and why he still matters.

💍 This Week’s Topic: Wedding Movies
