このコンテンツについて
In today's episode, I'm talking about the natural sugar found in an apple and added sugar. An average apple has about 20 grams of sugar in it. This is primarily in the form of fructose and this fructose is beautifully held in a whole foods matrix within the apple.
This is why the glycemic index is around 35 and the glycemic load of an apple is around 5. What this means is that the 20 grams of sugar in an apple is in the lower 1/3 of foods consumed related to raising glucose. Studies actually show that having an apple before a meal is an effective strategy in decreasing the sugar response of your body to that meal in people who already have impaired glucose tolerance.
We have done many challenges over the years related to protein intake and sugar reduction, but let me be clear, unless you're allergic to a whole food, like an apple, I would not stop eating whole foods so that you can partake of a processed food that has more protein or fat in it, or less sugar. That is not health accumulation, that is diet culture.
