The salt law was broken on the call of Thakur Arjun Singh, He was a freedom fighter, a writer, a publicist, the first chairman of Saharanpur district and knowledgeable in many languages. After this, Thakur Arjun Singh's case was heard in the jail itself and he was sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment. He was released on 4 March 1931 under the Gandhi-Irwin Pact.
