    2021/04/12

Have you ever wondered if products like Doritos or Goldfish crackers have GMOs in them? That’s why in episode 05 of GMO Watch we reached out to a few household name brands to see if some of our favorite products contain GMOs!

In this episode of GMO Watch, Daren and I are sharing the emails and responses we received when we reached out to a few of the companies we had in our kitchens. Some of the responses we receive very quickly answered our questions while others left us with more questions than answers.

  • Do GMOs Cause Cancer?
    2021/03/22

A lot of people have domains and they will tell you all of the horrible things that genetically engineered crops will do, and on the other hand, there is peer-reviewed literature being produced by academic, government, or industry scientists and tested again by independent groups. So when you see independent reproducibility around certain claims, you can then start to put some stock into them. That’s why episode 04 of GMO Watch is about the history and misinformation on GMOs!

In this episode of GMO Watch  Podcast, my guest, Dr. Kevin Folta is sharing the importance of understanding what is a reliable source when it comes to claims surrounding GMOs and actionable steps you can take right now to educate yourself by finding trustworthy sources to base your opinions off of. Some of the talking points Dr. Kevin Folta and I go over in this episode include:

    • Where you can find reliable and trustworthy sources for information on GMOs.
    • Breaking down the biggest claims against GMOs; how vague claims relate to hysteria.
    • Do GMOs cause cancer? The hype and research behind this claim.
    • The repercussions that false claims against GMOs have on the world and societies that rely heavily on genetically modified crops.
    • Dr. Kevin Folta’s own experience with anti-GMO activists.
    • Touching again on food labels and how this might affect buyers’ choices.

More than ever we can’t trust so much of what we read online and it’s just become fairly normal to not believe stuff and the majority with common sense just aren’t the loudest. So be sure to tune in to all the episodes to discuss tons of questions around GMOs and to hear even more about the points outlined above.

  • GMOs and Sustainable Crops
    2021/03/18

What if you could engineer insects so that they couldn’t transmit diseases like Dengue or Malaria or you could engineer insect pests to genetically get rid of their own populations. It’s a lot to think about. That’s why episode 3 of the GMO Watch Podcast is about engineering insects alongside food production!

In this episode of the GMO Watch Podcast, Dr. Fred Gould is sharing the importance of GMOs being much more than just how we can alter the food we eat and what scientists are doing now to change the future of potential disease and overall health. Some of the talking points Dr. Fred Gould and I go over in this episode include:

    • The controversy behind genetic engineering in general but more specifically engineering insects for our benefit.
    • Releasing engineered insects into the wild- how do they do it, how do they track it, and how soon do we see an impact?
    • The problems and concerns outside of controversy that scientists face when engineering insects; the consequences of our actions while looking at the consequences of our inactions.
    • Global trade introducing new insects to unfamiliar countries.
    • Would it even be possible to live in a world that is 100% organic? Touching on food labels, food regulations, and how they all came to be.

We’ll start seeing new labels on products, people will make their own decisions, and it will become clear whether people care if there are genetically engineered ingredients in the foods they buy. So be sure to tune in to all the episodes to receive tons of information on genetically modified food, plants, and even insects and to hear even more about the points outlined above.
