Maurice Klein speaks with Hila Fenlon, a community leader from Moshav Netiv Ha'asara right next to the Gaza northern border with Israel meters away from the security wall. Hila is one of two guests for JNF The Green Sunday Appeal on 16th February, which this year is supporting Operation Fire Support a fabulous initiative with Australian volunteers bringing Australia's wildfire prevention suppression techniques to Israel training communities, a unique program that fosters collaboration between Australian firefighters and Israel's fire and forestry services. At age 20, Hila established her own agriculture farm that focused on research and development in the field of creating new vegetable seeds. Hila walks us through the past challenges of life on the border with Gaza and the heartbreaking Netiv Ha'asara October 7 Hamas government of Gaza pogrom, with the community losing 20 of its members. We hear how Netiv Ha'asara is recovering and reconstructing its community. The impact of the Operation Fire Support program and volunteering has proven to be invaluable and stands as a testament to the strong ties between Australia and Israel, as well as the power of shared expertise safeguarding lives and property in times of crises.
