Tejpaul is a PhD candidate at the University of California, Riverside. His research focuses on Sikhism, Asian American history, and religion in America, with an emphasis on Sikh American history. He also serves on the board for Asian and Pacific Islander Americans in Historic Preservation, the Cultural Heritage Board in Stockton, and he is a researcher/historian for the Stockton Gurdwara (Stockton Sikh Temple). In this episode, we discussed the reasons Sikhs migrated to the US. We explored Sikh lives in the US when they first moved here, the reactions of Americans upon first encountering Sikhs, and the founding of the first gurdwara in California. We concluded the episode by discussing the impact of Sikh migration on the third generation.
