Hitchhiking from Finland to Morocco with Lempi

  • サマリー

  • In episode 2, join Lempi and me from the Abbotsford convent in Melbourne Australia as we chat about how she kicked off her life as a nomadic traveller, which spanned for over ten years. Her ten-year journey started with a penniless hitchhiking trip with from Finland to Morocco and we’ll hear a little about how her experience on that adventure. While this type of travelling has become popular in recent times, and some have gone as far as to label a similar form of travel ‘beg-packing’, it’s important to ask ourselves, where do we draw the line between authentically immersing ourselves in the human experience and taking advantage of the generosity of others?

Is being vulnerable, being in need and having to rely on the help others not truly an important part of the human experience? In a world that needs it now more than ever, the empathy and compassion that we can learn from others, simply by way of it being given to us in times of need, has never been more important.

Lempi also challenges capitalist values with the notion that when we remove from our options the ability to spend money by simply having none, we can free up a lot of mental capacity for ourselves, which ultimately allows us to exhibit creativity in other ways. That might all sound a bit utopian but I challenge anyone to prove otherwise.

While her chosen way of living has its highs and lows, whose life doesn’t? When all is said and done least Lempi has met some incredible and interesting people and collected some truly captivating stories to share along the way.
