• Sunday Side Session: Huskers finish non-con with Northern Iowa win
    2024/09/15
This week on the Sunday Side Session Mike Schaefer is joined by KETV’s Lauren Michelson to discuss Nebraska’s 34-3 win over Northern Iowa. What did each think of Nebraska’s performance? Where are things sitting offensively for Nebraska after a 3-0 start to non-conference? How are they feeling about Nebraska’s offensive line and running game? Then it’s time for defense. Nebraska started slow but finished strong. Any thoughts on what this game might mean for Big Ten play? Finally a few big picture thoughts as Illinois is set to come to town and how Dylan Raiola might be perceived through out the college football landscape and the Patrick Mahomes comparisons. • Husker247 Postgame Pod: NU handles UNI
    2024/09/15
It wasn’t the prettiest game but Nebraska took care of business in a mostly efficient manner in its 34-3 win over Northern Iowa on Saturday. Michael Bruntz and Mike Schaefer broke down how things looked on both sides of the ball on Saturday. The two started on defense where Nebraska struggled to get off the field early, but ultimately only allowed a single field goal in the contest and was playing better in the second half before the backups came on to finish things out. Offensively the Huskers were efficient and crisp — until it wasn’t. Do the guys have any concerns there? What about special teams? Anything notable on Saturday? The breezy near 30-minute podcast concluded with a look ahead to Nebraska’s Friday night matchup against Illinois. • Husker247 Pod: Nebraska looking like a bully
    2024/09/10
The Husker247 Podcast resumed on Tuesday as the gang got together to discuss Nebraska’s win against Colorado, Christian Jones commitment and the rest of the news over the past few days. It all started with Brian Christopherson giving his thoughts on Nebraska’s performance against the Buffaloes and what stood out for him in the game. Then each of the three highlighted a different player with a big performance in Nebraska’s win and what their play means this early in the season. Christopherson and Michael Bruntz ran through what Matt Rhule had to say at his Monday presser, Nebraska’s concerns on special teams and why Dante Dowdell and Rahmir Johnson have elevated themselves. Things finally finish with a conversation about Nebraska’s recruiting efforts, the Christian Jones commitment and where things sit with other visitors from the weekend. • Sunday Side Session: Nebraska's defense is for real
    2024/09/08
Nebraska vanquished Colorado and now the season moves forward. Who better to have that discussion with than 1620 The Zone’s Connor Happer? Happer and Mike Schaefer discuss Nebraska’s utterly dominant defense, how Tony White is far and away Nebraska’s most successful coordinator in a long time and why the defense seems to work so well on almost every level. Then there’s some chatter about the offense and where it finds itself after an ugly, penalty filled second half. Finally what to make of special teams and particular a kicking game where the Huskers can’t have much if any confidence in what is happening with Tristan Alvano. Of note there’s a brief discussion about press box cookies that many listeners will never eat. Trust us. The cookies are good.
