  • Sinners, Lake Mungo, Being John Malkovich Movie Reviews and Deep Dive
    2025/04/24

Ryan Coogler's breathtaking genre film, Sinners (2025), has taken the audience by storm! Coogler reunites with Michael B. Jordan as the Smoke Stack twins and invites us into one of the most culturally unique places and times in American history, the Mississippi Delta. Miles Caton as Preacher Boy is an absolute breakout performance, plus the always amazing Delroy Lindo as Delta Slim, Hailee Steinfeld, Omar Benson Miller, and the powerful Wunmi Mosaku all come together to give the richest character development I've seenthat sets the stage for horror, blues, and history to form a Faustian bargain of sorts to create one of the most unique films in recent history.

Sinners is truly a MUST SEE film on the biggest screen possible, preferably IMAX, as Coogler shot the film on an I-MAX camera and can large in part thank Christopher Nolan and a conversation they had prior to filming. Sinners is truly a unique genre film, garnering a lot of comparisons to From Dusk Till Dawn but absolutely carving its own path and diverging half-way through to become a potential masterpiece. An incredible script, unforgettable music from Ludwig Göransson, strong performances, gorgeous scene-setting one shots and pans over a haunting and beautiful Mississippi backdrop, to one of the coolest stories to ever play out on the big screen brought to life by lived in costumer design and to-die-for set pieces... do NOT miss Sinners, in all movie theaters now, and enjoy our SPOILER-FREE review!

Our next film needs no introduction to anyone that enjoys horror movies, Lake Mungo (2008). 'Lake Mungo' is also known as the Australian Blair Witch Project, but it is so much more than that. Do you remember that feeling a truly scary movie used to be able to elicit from you, maybe earlier in your horror watching career before you became desensitized? I'm talking about a movie that has you checking the back of your car after you leave the theater, looking down the dark hallways of your house a little more closely that night. For me, Paranormal Activity achieved this on opening night in a cinema, a horror flick that truly followed me home. Lake Mungo deserves to be in that conversation, and is for so many horror fans.

Lake Mungo, in my opinion, is part of the Twin Peaks extended universe- watch and let us know in a review if you agree! The worst happens to the Palmers and they lose their 16 year old daughter, but that is only the beginning. From strange happenings around the house, to horrific and dark secrets unveiled about Alice and seemingly another life lived, to grief laid bare by the Palmers, and the weirdo brother and inexplicable bruises and ghostly photography he captures- Lake Mungo has it all. This mockumentary is of dark and haunting proportions, unsettling in the best of ways, and an ending scene that will be carved into your mind for the rest of your life. Go watch 'Lake Mungo' now and do it in the darkest setting possible- sorry in advance but also you're incredibly welcome!

A stone cold classic saved for last. Think Severance, think mind-bending cinema goodness, think Being John Malkovich! 'Being John Malkovich' came out in the LOADED film year of 1999 and, in a lot of ways, isn't spoken about nearly enough. See what's behind the most recognizable VHS cover you've ever seen- we dive deep into the cerebral exploration of Cartesian Dualism, cinema and its exploitation and exploration, and one of the most original screenplays you have ever seen come to life! Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman come together here first, and proceed to set the movie world on fire with the help of John Cusak, Cameron Diaz, Catherine Keener, and the powerful John Malkovich. 'Being Tom Cruise' was almost a thing, join our convo and find out what the heck that's about!

Now go forth and watch Sinners in theaters, and go watch these other two phenomenal films- you have three absolute bangers here! And, please share us!

  • Snow White (2025), Bloody Axe Wound, The Woman in the Yard, Tenebrae (1982)
    2025/04/05

Is Snow White as bad as its IMDB score!? Can Gal Gadot act!? Is the new indie horror comedy Bloody Axe Would absolutely fantastic!? How about the newest horror picture in movie theaters right now, The Woman in the Yard- is it worth the price of admission? And a movie that needs no introduction, we continue our deep dive into the hauntingly beautiful Italian genre of film, Giallo, with Dario Argento's Tenebrae!

We start off with making the distinction that the 'Snow White' we are discussing is in fact Marc Webb, Rachel Zegler and co and not that little white baggy in your pocket. Bobby gives this latest Disney film a fare shake and we discuss what went right, wrong, and in between.

Then we have a fantastic discussion, if I may be so bold, on the art of the PG-13 horror film! Shortly after we review Matthew John Lawrence's 'Bloody Axe Wound.' Bloody Axe Wound has one of the best log lines we've seen in a Hollywood minute, what if axe murderin' was a family business? Yes please.

And then we dive into the pg-13 horror film in question, 'The Woman in the Yard.' The Woman in the Yard has one of the most haunting trailers of the year and one we have been stoked to finally see, but you must be wondering.. does it live up to the hype!? Listen to our spoiler-free review and find out!

Last but oh my goodness not least, the haunting masterpiece that is Dario Argento's return to giallo glory, 'Tenebrae.' Horror fans, cinephiles, and film aficionados, get to know this genre of film. Giallo, literally yellow in Italian, is a reference to the pulp horror whodunits of the 20s and 30s in Italian supermarkets, but what it means in film is an evolution and adaptation of those novels. If you have ever watched John Carpenter's Halloween, or a slasher at all, you have witnessed the influence of giallo films and, more specifically, the great Dario Argento. From Deep Red now to Tenebrae, journey with us as we discuss what makes this movie such a stone cold classic and the giallo genre one you can't miss!

If you love your mother, please consider leaving us a 5-star review and sharing us around- we'd greatly appreciate it and hope we've earned it! Now go watch some darn movies, and try to catch up.. because you know.. we watch WAY more movies than you! See ya people!

  • The Electric State, Novocaine, Black Bag, Deep Red (1975) Movie Reviews
    2025/03/21

Is 'The Electric State' just a diet coke 'Ready Player One,' or is it worthy of the $320 million dollar budget Netflix gave the Russo brothers!? We discuss this, plus, we debate if Anthony and Joe Russo were just caretakers for Kevin Feige and his MCU, or does their latest entry prove their directorial prowess!?

The Electric State is next in the long line of Netflix enormously budgeted blockbusters, starring Chris Pratt, Millie Bobby Brown, Woody Harrelson as Mr. Peanut, that's right, and more! But can money buy a good movie? Let's discuss this and what this means for the state of cinema!

Up next is our favorite nepo baby, Jack Quaid, and his new picture 'Novocaine.' Another spoiler-free review and discussion of Novocaine and if it holds its own water, or another limb from the John Wick tree.

Thirdly, our second film from Mr. Steven Soderbergh this year alone, 'Black Bag.' Black Bag is akin to hard sci-fi but for a spy-thriller, think more concepts and ideas told through a lot of dialogue and less gunplay. And guess what, it works, phenomenally. Join us as we discuss this film more in depth in a spoiler-free discussion and allow us to convince you to spend your hard-earned time and money watching this movie on the big screen.

Next but CERTAINLY not least, allow us to introduce the beautiful and dark Italian genre of film, known as Giallo, with one of its finest submissions ever- Dario Argento's 'Deep Red' (1975). Deep Red is a cult classic, a movie that had an entire era in a chokehold when it came out and it hasn't loosened its black leather gloved grip since. We deep dive into Deep Red, pun, and also discuss giallo as a whole. What makes a film giallo, why are they so darn lipstick red, dark, and sexy? And why do we keep coming back for more.

Come expand your film knowledge and talk movies with us, we'd love to have you! And boy, we span a wide variety of films in this episode, please let us know if you love the spectrum in a hopefully earned 5-star review please and thank you!

And, as always, we watch WAY more movies than you!
