Linda is a democrat member of the Texas State House of Representatives. This week, she’s giving us an update from her political office, in a segment we’re calling “Talk me off the lege.” Linda updates us about a financial literacy bill that she’s championing in the State House in partnership with Yanely Espinal, a financial educator and content producer. Linda also gives us a stock market update. In the last week, we saw a quick stock market recovery. This is likely precipitated by earnings calls. Just remember: with so much stock market volatility, don’t make any sudden changes to your portfolio. • Q2: Talk me off the lege: an update from democratic Texas State Representative Linda Garcia

Linda is a democrat member of the Texas State House of Representatives. This week, she’s giving us an update from her political office, in a new segment we’re calling “Talk me off the lege”. Last week, Linda and the rest of the reps voted on a key piece of legislation: vouchers for private education. Families are being given vouchers that potentially drive funding away from public schools in Texas. Texas and fellow Texas House democrats voted against the legislation to protect families and support public education; republicans by and large voted for the legislation–and won. In this episode, Linda unpacks what happened in this legislative session, and the impact the passage of this legislation will have on Texas residents. • Q2: Market manipulation and volatility: the stock market saga continues

Through her podcast and advocacy, Linda tackles the intersection of financial education, the economy, and geopolitics, helping diverse communities build wealth and secure their place in today’s financial landscape. Last week, it looked like the stock market was going to crash: it actually did crash, but it recovered by the end of that trading day. Linda explains what intraday trading is. We are witnessing Trump manipulate the stock market right now, using his Truth Social and X feeds to signal stock market drops and recoveries. This is, needless to say, unprecedented. Trump is reversing on tariffs, delaying them, and making exceptions for certain goods, which is adding to stock market volatility and chaos. Currently, Linda is not making new investments. She is waiting to buy when the market is less volatile. For now, stay strong, Investies! Don’t let your emotions get the better of you as you watch the market rise and drop and rebound again. We’ll ride this out together! There are so many ways to make the stock market work for you as you gain more experience as an investor. • Q2: Yes, the stock market is crashing–here’s what to do about it
    2025/04/08
Linda Garcia, Texas House Representative, author of Wealth Warrior: 8 Steps for Communities of Color to Conquer the Stock Market, and founder of In Luz We Trust, is dedicated to empowering BIPOC and Latinx communities through financial literacy. Her podcast, Investies, tackles real-money topics, demystifies investing, and explores crucial areas like the stock market, money management, and the impact of interest rates on personal finances. Linda’s work advocates for financial independence, championing equity and representation for all, especially immigrants and marginalized communities. Through her podcast and advocacy, Linda tackles the intersection of financial education, the economy, and geopolitics, helping diverse communities build wealth and secure their place in today’s financial landscape. Linda examines the most recent jobs report–and while we added 228,000 jobs to the market, the unemployment rate increased from 4.1% to 4.2%. Normally, positive jobs numbers would be reflected positively in the stock market, but the market isn’t celebrating at all. Trump’s tariffs and resulting reciprocal tariffs from trading partners like China are causing stock market chaos. Speaking of stock market chaos… We’ve been waiting and wondering if and when the market was going to crash. It is now. This is not the time to sell off your entire portfolio. This is the time to hold on–that will only cause the stock market to crash further. This is the time to invest in those blue chip stocks that you normally can’t afford. This is the time to hold fast and have patience, and manage your emotions as an investor. Remember: we’ve seen market crashes before. We’re currently headed towards a bear market, which means that yes, the stock market is crashing, or has crashed (depending on when you listen to this). And yes, the catalyst is Trump’s tariffs, and the possibility of a full-blown global trade war. • Q2: How a potential recession and ongoing stock market volatility can impact us–for worse and for better
    2025/04/01
Linda Garcia, Texas House Representative, author of Wealth Warrior: 8 Steps for Communities of Color to Conquer the Stock Market, and founder of In Luz We Trust, is dedicated to empowering BIPOC and Latinx communities through financial literacy. Through her podcast and advocacy, Linda tackles the intersection of financial education, the economy, and geopolitics, helping diverse communities build wealth and secure their place in today’s financial landscape. Last week, the stock market made a “v-shaped” recovery–a steep recovery after a very steep drop. But are we actually in the clear? Linda analyzes why these gains aren’t sustainable, given Trump’s volatility as a leader. His ever-changing policy decisions on things like tariffs, immigration, and diplomacy have really serious implications for the economy, and for the stock market. We’re talking recession-level implications. Is this scary? Yes. But remember: millionaires are made in recessions. During moments of financial crisis, we can make strategic investments in blue chip stocks when they are down--and expand our portfolios exponentially. Linda dives into recession-era investment strategy. There are so many ways to make the stock market work for you as you gain more experience as an investor.
