He was born with arthrogryposis, a condition that inhibits muscle growth and joint movement, and has adapted to learn how to play games without the use of his hands. BrolyLegs joins me to chat about the last 15 years of competing in fighting game tournaments, including the first two seasons of Street Fighter League, and about how he is connecting with other players through Twitch, YouTube and one-on-one coaching. • KakeBytes Episode 30: Fyre Games and Summerland
    2020/11/04

I wanted to bring Connor Rush onto KakeBytes to talk about teaching himself how to program in Java as an 11 year old and how he jumpstarted the development of his very own video game studio Fyre Games.

Connor is a 19 year old video game developer that is getting ready to release his third game, Summerland, on Steam in December and will be free to play. His first two games, Into the Unknown and Welcome to the Dreamscape, are free to play on Steam.

Summerland is a first-person narrative-driven game that explores how the line between life and death is blurred. Players will explore Summerland as Matthew, a detective in over his head, and confront themes of subjective morality and the afterlife.

In addition to video game development, Connor is a musician creating music with his band Auric Echoes.

You can follow Connor at Fyre Games at their official website and on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Steam. You can follow Connor’s art rock band Auric Echoes on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music.

  • Cris Tales and Dreams Uncorporated/SYCK
    2019/08/20

E3 was jam packed this year and I was starstruck the whole week I attended. In my journeys, I had the pleasure of meeting Carlos Rocha, the founder of Dreams Uncoporated and SYCK games.

Both companies are working tirelessly on Cris Tales, a love letter to classic JRPGs that debuted during the PC Gaming Show. I was enamored by Cris Tales’ development journey and the inspiration behind it during our meeting in June and I’m excited to share Carlos’ story with all of you.

You can wishlist Cris Tales and play the demo through Steam. You can follow updates on the game @CrisTalesGame and follow the development teams @syckstudio and @D_Uncorporated

  • Ed Annunziata & Ecco the Dolphin
    2019/06/20

Ed Annunziata joined me on the latest episode of the show to discuss the Sega Genesis classic Ecco the Dolphin as well as discuss Space War Area, which launched earlier this year on the Nintendo Switch.

We delve into his love of programming that kickstarted his career, starting with Pyramid Run in 1984. He has stuck with the same team since Ecco, modernizing the development approach that has stuck with them for the last three decades.

You can  follow Ed on Twitter @edannunziata and follow him on YouTube.

  • Dwarf Fortress: Toady One returns
    2019/05/02

Tarn Adams joins me on the show (again!) to talk about the full launch of Dwarf Fortress coming soon to Steam and itch.io.

In our first conversation on episode 16 of the show, the full launch of the game seemed literally eons away so I wanted to bring him on to discuss the news, which broke in mid-March, and other development updates. He is joined periodically by his feline companion, Scamps.

You can read more about Bay 12 Games at bay12games.com and follow them on social media at Twitter and Facebook.
