  • You Can't Lead Effectively, Until You Can Lead Yourself First.
    2023/01/03

I’m super excited to have you join me here for the first episode of Leading You.

As I mentioned last year I had a little secret and this was it - a new name! This new name encompasses everything that the podcast has become. It feels so aligned with the conversations I’ve been having and will be having with all the incredible guests I have lined up for you this year.

I dig deep with my guests, uncovering their road maps for success, how they’ve remained anchored through challenge and disruption, insights into their courage and resilience and how to be emotionally and behaviourally agile.

In this first episode of Leading You, I share with you why self-leadership is so important to your success now and into the future. First and foremost, you cannot lead others until you are a leader of self. But one of the hardest things to do is to lead yourself. You need to take responsibility for your language, biases and mindset - that can be really confronting.

I discuss how self-leadership is also a critical skill to have to be equipped for the future of work. I explain recent research undertaken by McKinsey Global Institute, that outlines the high-level skills that will become increasingly important as automation, AI and robotics take hold. These include:

    • Cognitive (critical thinking and mental flexibility)
    • Interpersonal (relationships and teamwork)
    • Self-leadership (self-awareness and self-management)
    • Digital (fluency and systems thinking)

I also clarify why self-leadership is not self-absorbed. Your self-leadership is the basis for all your actions. If you know what you stand for, what your values are and what the legacy you then you are equipped for success.

It is so vital to invest time into leading you. I leave you with three easy questions that give you a great checkpoint to reflect on your leadership each and every day.

My guest today is Jacklyn Osborne, the Data Strategy Executive for Bank of America. With over 15 years of experience in data governance, client data management, change delivery, and information security in the public and private sectors, Jacklyn understands the hard work and diligence required to climb the corporate ladder and the burnout that so many women experience.

In the last few years, Jacklyn has been on a self care transformation journey from being overworked and burnt out to calm, present and happy. In this episode, we’re diving into 52 Weeks of Me, Jacklyn's blog and podcast which document her self care transformation and how this journey has completely changed her life.

A recovering perfectionist, workaholic and people pleaser, Jacklyn's wellness and happiness became a top priority after reaching a point of burnout. She shares the catalyst for the idea of 52 weeks of me; three questions that an executive coach asked her which completely changed her life.

Jacklyn shares her experiences over the year performing an act of self care every week. We talk about the mindset shifts she went through and the biggest aha moments. These include:

    • Becoming a strong leader of self enables her to be a great role model to her children and the huge team of people that she leads
    • Happiness comes from the inside and it’s vital that we make decisions for the whole self, not just focus on more money and a bigger title

  • Understanding the Cause of Self-Doubt & Turning it into Self Belief with Sas Petherick
    2023/01/15

At some point in our lives, we all experience self doubt and it shows up in different ways for everyone. That’s why understanding the root cause of our own self doubt is one of the most important steps to overcoming it.

My incredible guest today is Sas Petherick, a woman on a mission to help humans understand the root causes of self-doubt and cultivate tangible and sustainable self belief, self acceptance, self worth and self trust.

Sas is the Founder of the Self Belief School and the Self Belief Coaching Academy, having worked with hundreds of people around the world to overcome self doubt and connect to their self belief. Sas is also the host of Courage & Spice: The podcast for humans with self doubt, where she shares evidence-based resources and original proven coaching tools to teach people how to develop robust self belief.

In this episode, Sas shares the biggest game changing moment that led her to the work she’s doing now. She reflects on a time in her life when her relationship with alcohol needed a shake up and how she began facing things in her life instead of running away.

Sas shares some amazing insights into how self doubt shows up in our lives and what she has learned through her many years of experience. We talk about:

    • Why we need to slow down and reflect on what we are, where we’re going and what is meaningful to us.
    • How self doubt shows up in different ways for different people. Sas shares the 4 patterns and behaviours of self doubt: overwork, overgiving, feeling overwhelmed and overthinking.
    • Some common root causes of self belief and how the wider cultural narratives and our own “meaning making” impact our sense of self.
    • Courage enables confidence but it will always feel awful during the process. Learn to embrace the process and don’t wait to have confidence before you start doing something.

Toward the end of the episode, Sas shares some tips to help you work through self doubt, particularly if you’re an overworker or perfectionist. There is no quick fix to building confidence, but as you practise compassion and embrace imperfection, you will soon discover that your confidence has grown.

There is so much gold in what Sas shares today. I know you’re going to get so much out of this episode.
