  • 33: Cousin 24 - Keriann
    2024/09/29

Devin, Sarah, and Tim arrive at the Barlows for dinner only to find that the Barlow's youngest biological daughter, Hazel, had grown up to look nearly identical to the Barlow's second oldest daughter, Maddie. Devin was very confused at first.

After a delicious dinner of crepes, Sarah and Devin sat down with Keriann and Tom in their basement (With Emma and Maddie sitting close by) for the podcast.

Devin learns about Keriann's name, the cousins that were born the same year as her, and even what Tom's cousin number would be if he were born an Andersen. Keriann talks about her mission, her education, and how she and Tom met. Tom tells about their first date, how they got engaged, and meeting the Kartchners for the first time. Aunt Kathy had asked him to share a poem. He replied by saying "Frost, or a Shakespeare Sonnet"?

Tom shares a story from his mission before talking about his service in the Navy as well as his gratitude for the business he's received from the Andersen family at his Dermatology Practice in Saratoga Springs. Devin shares his experience of being a patient there recently.

Keriann then shares memories of Grandparents, aunts and uncles, and of course, cousins growing up. Devin then shares the memories that he collected from her father and siblings. Tom also shares a delightful memory of meeting Aunt Phyllis when he and Keriann were engaged.

For the final topic, Keriann and Tom spoke on being foster parents to their two, soon to be adopted girls, Salem and Priest. Devin asks several questions about that experience and what it's like being a foster parent.

Tom then talks about Devin's podcast and how it could perhaps be improved or at the very least, how people should recognize that we are all amazing in our own ways and that we shouldn't be comparing ourselves to each other when we listen to each episode. Devin expresses his deep felt emotions about the love he has for his cousins and how he only wants to uplift and help cousins feel of their family's love for them.

Devin learns of the origins of Hyrum's name and how it's affected his life. His cousin number, as well as the cousins close to him in age. Hyrum talks about his mission, his work and education, his wife, Sundee, and their 5 children.

Devin then shares memories about Hyrum that he'd collected from Hyrum's parents and siblings. There were so many that Devin couldn't even share them all. They shared stories about Hyrum riding his s, being the class president, being an example to his siblings and friends, singing at the top of his lungs, falling out of a car, eating worms, finishing homeschool homework early to watch tv and play video games, as well as all of the amazing attributes that Hyrum possesses.

For the final topic, Hyrum chose to discuss Social Science and how it relates to the gospel. Devin asks Hyrum questions about the topic before delving into Hyrum's and Verlan's latest book "The Myth of Left and Right". Devin had spent many hours reading it and had many questions and comments on how he had felt about politics for the past several years. Another incredible episode down, 73 to go.
