  • Jubilate—A Little While: The Sorrow That Gives Way to Joy
    2025/05/15

On this Jubilate Sunday, coinciding with Mother's Day, we reflect on Jesus’ powerful image of childbirth to teach about Christian suffering and joy. Just as a woman endures pain before rejoicing at the birth of her child, so we endure sorrow in this “little while” before the joy of Christ’s resurrection and return.

This sermon explores the layered meaning of Jesus’ words to His disciples—both about His death and resurrection, and about His ascension and promised return. With clarity and compassion, it acknowledges the real crosses Christians bear, from the grief of infertility to the weight of enduring in faith when Christ seems hidden.

Yet through Word and Sacrament, our Lord gives joy even now. Listen to be strengthened in tribulation and reminded of the hope that cannot be taken from you.
