  • 005 General Hospital: Why It Really Was The Days of Our Lives
    2025/07/17

    🛋️ In This Episode:

Before there was prestige TV and streaming queues, there was General Hospital — and for Michelle and Cherie, it was basically background noise to their childhood. But who knew they had this much to say about it?

From the infamous Ice Princess weather machine plotline to the time Luke and Laura’s wedding pulled in 30 million viewers, the sisters dive into why General Hospital — and soap operas in general — were such a massive pop culture force. There’s also confusion over swapped actors, a nod to Port Charles (remember that?), and a very important PSA about what “soap opera” actually means.

    📺 What You'll Hear:

    • Why their mom is basically the third host of this episode
    • The soapiest tropes: secret twins, romantic musical chairs, and everyone sleeping with everyone
    • Stars who got their start in soaps: John Stamos, Demi Moore, Rick Springfield, Meghan Markle, and more
    • Actor swapping chaos: “Wait, who’s that supposed to be? LAURA?!”
    • The surprisingly real legacy of General Hospital in pop culture today
    • A mini history lesson on where the term “soap opera” came from (yes, it involves actual soap)

    💬 Favorite Quotes:

“I need to call Mom back and tell her, you know what? I am scarred for life.”

“Laura Baldwin Webber Cassadine Spencer Corinthos Quartermaine... or something like that.”

“Do people still watch soap operas? Well, Mom does. But she doesn’t know how to listen to podcasts.” 😅

  • 004 Doctor Who? So Many Questions, So Few (Good) Answers
    2025/07/10

We’re diving headfirst into the wild, wibbly-wobbly world of Doctor Who—and yes, it’s as confusing and charming as it sounds. From pepper shaker-shaped villains (Daleks, if you didn’t know) to the Doctor’s uncanny ability to regenerate and still look good, we cover it all. Did you know Time Lords have two hearts? Spoiler: it doesn’t come with a doctor’s note. We reminisce about meeting actual actors who played the Doctor (yes, we’re basically Whovian royalty), debate if Benedict Cumberbatch should steal the TARDIS, and spill tea on fan-made Dalek costumes that are life-sized and packed with blinking lights. We also get real about the show’s sometimes “old” vibe and admit that not every episode had us hooked—sorry, classic Who.

If you’ve ever wondered why Doctor Who episodes sometimes feel like a Christmas party crashed by Santa himself, or why sonic screwdrivers should totally exist in real life, this episode is for you. Warning: may cause sudden urges to binge-watch 900+ episodes or craft your own Dalek out of cardboard.

    What You’ll Hear:

    • The Doctor Who timeline explained (mostly) without time travel confusion
    • Daleks = pepper shakers on steroids
    • Personal encounters with Doctors (aka celebrity name-drops)
    • Sonic screwdriver envy and other sci-fi gadget fantasies
    • The eternal question: Who really should be the next Doctor? (Cumberbatch, anyone?)
    • The struggle of keeping up with almost 900 episodes—no promises
    • Why Christmas specials sometimes involve Santa and spaceships (because why not?)
    • The epic quest to build a life-sized Dalek, complete with blinking lights and probably way too much duct tape

    Favorite Quotes:
"Why do I keep thinking about Dr. Strange and Benedict Cumberbatch? Is there a connection or is it just because it’s ‘Dr.’ Who?"
"I will not be getting you a life-sized TARDIS for Christmas. Sorry, not sorry."
"Daleks were based on pepper shakers. I thought they were just evil robots, but nope — dinner table inspiration!"

    Where to Watch:

    • BBC, BBC America, and Amazon Prime (because binge)
    • Roku for classic episodes (yes, really!)

Strap in and fire up the black van—this week, we’re diving into one of the most iconic shows of the 1980s: The A-Team! Cherie gleefully takes us back to her childhood obsession, while Michelle (the ever-reluctant little sister) tries to make peace with all the campy action, improbable explosions, and an unhealthy amount of jewelry worn by one Mr. T.

    We talk about:

    • The original 1983 A-Team pilot and how it aired after Super Bowl XVII 🎯
    • The show's legendary lineup: George Peppard, Mr. T, Dirk Benedict, and Dwight Schultz

    • That unforgettable van, the cartoonish violence, and how nobody ever really got hurt
    • Behind-the-scenes trivia (Did you know Dirk Benedict wasn’t in the pilot?!)
    • Mr. T’s real-life story—wrestler, Rocky villain, minister, cancer survivor 💪
    • Nostalgia vs. reboots: Can you ever truly recapture the magic?
    • Why Michelle thought Hannibal was kind of a jerk and Murdoch just made no sense 🤷‍♀️
    • Our mutual refusal to accept Mary Poppins Returns (sorry, Emily Blunt!)
    • And the eternal mystery: how exactly did people “find” the A-Team?

Plus: Where to stream it today, what the theme song triggers in our memory banks, and how Brooke (Michelle’s 14-year-old daughter) found and briefly loved the show herself.

    Links & Mentions:

    • Watch The A-Team on Pluto TV, Amazon Prime Video, Philo, and possibly still on MeTV 📺

  • 002 Space Hair & Robot Vacuums: Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
    2025/06/26

    Episode #: 002
    Release Date: June 26, 2025

    📝 Episode Summary:

In this episode, Michelle and Cherie blast off into a galaxy of questionable fashion, recycled space footage, and robot sidekicks as they revisit the late-'70s sci-fi series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Cherie made Michelle watch it as a kid, and now they’re both wondering why.

Was Buck a space hero or just a disco-era James Bond? Could anyone take a robot named “Tweaky” seriously? And why was Mel Blanc—yes, Bugs Bunny himself—voicing a vacuum cleaner in a tin can?

Join us as we unpack Buck's journey through time, the legacy of a pre-streaming era of sci-fi TV, and whether anyone in the 25th century would really be named Wilma.

    📌 Topics Covered:

    • Buck Rogers: The 1979 reboot before reboots were a thing
    • Mel Blanc voicing TWIKI the robot (yes, really)
    • Cherie's nostalgic defense vs. Michelle’s modern skepticism
    • Recycled Battlestar Galactica footage
    • Jamie Lee Curtis and other guest stars
    • Gil Gerard, Erin Gray, and questionable 25th-century names
    • Did this show actually hold up? (Spoiler: Not really)
    • Michelle’s robot vacuum now has a name…

  • 001 Battlestar Galactica (1978): Cylons, Costumes, and... Alpo?
    2025/06/18

Welcome to the very first episode of My Sister Made Me Watch This – the podcast where two sisters dive into the pop culture one of them definitely did not sign up for.

In this premiere episode, Cherue forces Michelle to revisit the original Battlestar Galactica series from 1978. No, not the gritty 2000s reboot — we're talking classic space opera, Alpo commercials, and action figures with glowing red eyes.

    In this episode:

    • 🚀 Cherie reveals her extensive (and slightly alarming) Cylon knowledge
    • 👧 Michelle admits she mostly watched for “the cute guy" and "the Alpo guy”
    • 🎭 A deep dive into Cherie's very first cosplay attempt… involving Sharpies and a card table
    • 🧸 The emotional trauma of a borrowed (okay, stolen) action figure
    • 🎄 A pitch for a hypothetical Battlestar Galactica Christmas special
    • 📼 Nostalgia-fueled laughs about VHS tapes, toy guns, and futuristic shoulder pads

Plus, we explore how a one-season show from the '70s spawned reboots, conventions, lifelong fandom… and maybe a little sisterly resentment.

    📺 What We're Watching:
    Battlestar Galactica (1978–1979)
    Created by Glen A. Larson
Starring Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict, Jane Seymour
Available on DVD, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and YouTube

    💬 Let’s hear from you!
