  • Yeah, Put Your Feet Up… What’s the Worst that Can Happen?
    2025/08/05
Feet on the dashboard may seem like a carefree summer habit, but it could end in devastating injury or worse. In Spain, it’s not only illegal to sit incorrectly in a vehicle — it’s potentially fatal. Airbags deploy at speeds of up to 300 km/h. In a crash, that cool, relaxed position can result in shattered bones, facial trauma, or death. Even at just 25 km/h, an airbag impact can destroy your lower limbs. Here’s why posture matters, and why “cool” could cost you your life.

  • Introducing the New Members of the N332 Team!
    2025/07/17
If you have attended one of our talks during the spring, you may have already had an introduction to the latest little member of the N332 team, but we thought we would show him and his friends off to everyone now, before they too go on tour in September. Introducing Trafford and Friends Allow us to formally introduce you to, Trafford and Friends! Trafford is the N332 Road Safety Raccoon, and with his big brother Trent, and sister Tammy, they will introduce road safety to the littlest members of the family, sowing the seeds for the future. As well as his family, Trafford does also have friends, like Francisco, the friendly traffic police officer, and Mark, their guide, and more friends waiting in the background. There is also Riley, a teen with attitude, who will become the bridge into a different world of road safety as the children get older. What is Trafford and Friends About? Now, as a famous TV commercial once said, “the science bit”! The idea of Trafford and Friends is to present road safety in a manner that children can easily associate with, through colourful, 3D animation style pictures, short texts, and interactive elements such as colouring in pages and short games. Plus, they have an already growing catalogue of sing-along songs, to help reenforce the message, all of which, and this is the really important part, is designed to be enjoyed by the child in the company of a grownup. So, a book at bedtime, a singing session, colouring in, all a lot of fun with child and grownup, reenforcing that message through mutual trust, play, and positive association and tactile learning. Trafford also has his own show on N332 Radio, every weekday evening, playing fun songs for children to sing and dance to, including his own, before settling down to bed. Collectively offering a complete auditory and visual learning programme. Now the science is over, let’s get back to what Trafford is up to. Launching in September In September, Trafford’s human companions from N332 will be visiting schools offering the road safety presentations to the youngest children, introducing Trafford and Friends in the visual elements, and teaching the children the safety songs. Incidentally, if you are a representative of a school and would like to discuss us visiting, get in touch. The full launch of Trafford and Friends is set for September therefore, but as an introduction, Trafford is currently on a well-earned holiday, and has decided to offer his helpful safety advice to his little friends for when they are at the beach this summer. Although the primary focus is road safety, Trafford and Friends will also touch on other issues aimed at offering safety advice to children through their grownup mentors. There is a lot more being prepared before the launch, including his website, traffordandfriends.com, but if you would like a preview now, you can head over to his site and look at two of his adventures, Safe on the School Bus, and Beach Safe with Trafford. Summer Preview As it is summer, and it is the latter we are offering for safer summer playtime, we have compiled a list below which will take you directly to some of the different elements of this campaign, including the book you can read or download for free, also available on Kindle (and apps), although you may have to pay there, depending on your account type. You can also listen to the songs which accompany the book, also available on all major platforms, such as Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, iTunes, etc, just search for Trafford and Friends. The songs are also available on social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, so you can add them to your stories or posts. Beta Testing Please remember though, this is an early release preview before Trafford returns from his holidays for the September launch, and so it is not completely finished, but we would love you to take a poke around,

  • Road and Traffic Forecast in Spain – Week Commencing 8 December 2024
    2024/12/08
This is the N332 Traffic Update for week commencing Sunday 8 December 2024. We are just coming out of the first holiday period of the season, with Constitution Day celebrated on Friday and the religious holiday of the Immaculate Conception on Sunday, which means the roads will still be particularly busy in places like shopping and leisure facilities, and towns and cities where holidays are celebrated. Listen Now General Traffic Overview As the second holiday of the period was on Sunday, many locations have moved the holiday to the Monday, but not all. Murcia has, for example, but neighbouring Valencia has not. This is important because, as usual, there will be many people who have visited the coast and mountain areas for the weekend and will then head back inland, but depending on where they are from the return could be either Sunday or Monday, although Sunday is also likely to be the busiest day in that sense. It also means that Monday is a none working day in many places, to the normal flow of traffic will be different to usual. Talking about local holidays, as well as coming out of this weekend, Totana in Murcia celebrates a local holiday on Tuesday, as does Merida in Badajoz, so it is an especially long weekend for them. We will talk about the weather shortly, but that too has to be taken into consideration before setting off and during the journey, and we have seen snow in places already. If you are of a superstitious nature, we have Friday the 13th this week, and a full moon on Sunday 15th, which is one of those times when everyone needs to be a little more alert! Special Traffic Operations There are no special traffic operations this week, but looking ahead, next week, Roadpol, the European Traffic Police Network, are coordinating their Europe-wide campaign focusing on alcohol and drugs, a problem throughout the year but more so during the festive season. Remember, the only safe level of alcohol is zero. Next year, in Spain, we will see the permitted alcohol level reduced, and it is already lower than some countries, the UK for example, but it will effectively mandate zero alcohol consumption before driving. Upcoming Driving in Spain Information Amongst the articles we will be publishing on the N332 website this week, n332.es, on Tuesday we will be talking about carrying items outside the vehicle. Last week, we talked about keeping things secure inside, including the explanation as to why you can be fined for carrying your shopping on the back seat of the car. This week we move outside, most commonly referring to things like carrying bikes at the back, and the restrictions on width, but there are also restrictions relating to carrying things on the roof. This is important at this time of year because of carrying more than usual, like gifts, for example, or even perhaps the Christmas tree. Later in the week, we do focus our attention on alcohol, both looking at the dangers, and the changes, including the reduction in the maximum permitted limit set to be introduced in Spain in 2025. Remember though, and we cannot stress this enough, the only safe limit is zero. The Weather Finally, let us take a quick look at the weather for the week, with information from the Spanish Met Office, Aemet, and, as mentioned, we have already seen snow in places, so it is important you check the weather conditions before you set off. On the Aemet website, there is a page dedicated to driving which shows the road conditions, it is called MeteoRuta if you want to search for it. You should also check the DGT traffic map for other restrictions and other problems, always referring to the official information. It is important to note that if you see a blue circular sign on your journey with a pictogram of a wheel with show chains on, then snow chains are mandatory on your wheels from that point on. If you don´t have snow chains, you must not proceed. Winter tyres, if approved, are okay.

  • Traffic Police to Focus on Trucks and Buses This Week
    2024/02/17
This week, ROADPOL, the European traffic police network, are holding a focussed campaign on vans, trucks and buses, checking everything from vehicle standards and compliance, and driver and documentation. The campaign runs all week and through Sunday 25 February 2024, and will be taking place in most European countries. In Spain, the DGT are supporting this campaign and so the Guardia Civil, assisted by Local Police in areas where they are taking part, will also be checking on these types of vehicles. There is also still the possibility of protests causing disruption on the roads, and so you should consult the official information from the DGT which is updated live on their website. We also still have the risk of snow on higher and mountainous areas, and so snow chains could be required, again, check before you travel. Official Websites for Travel Information For live traffic reports, visit the DGT traffic map For weather warnings, consult AEMET For flight information, check the AENA airport operator's website
