  • 64 | Inside the Mind of an ISTP, Type 8 Female. Strong-Willed, Independent and Logical
    2025/05/08

Introverted Thinking Lion ISTP (Introverted Sensing Thinking and Perceiving), Type 8 individuals are intellectually sharp but may lack emotional intelligence, making self-awareness essential. Their affinity for systems makes understanding temperament valuable. Female thinkers constitute only 25% of the population, underscoring the importance of teaching appropriate interactions with women. It's crucial to acknowledge and validate their uniqueness. Encourage Introverted thinking (Ti) individuals to explore logical subjects like engineering, philosophy, or theology, aligning with their strategic, independent nature. For ISTPs, action trumps reading, so practical books with real-life scenarios are ideal. As they mature, purpose-driven books become more appealing. Engage ISTP children by acting out stories and ensuring rules make logical sense to them. Embrace the Lion: Encourage freedom and fun, but address ADHD concerns tactfully, considering placebos and life lessons over medication. Observing the lion's transformative journey from childhood to adulthood reveals adaptability and growth in various aspects of life. Ti's self-discipline and intrinsic motivation require patience and negotiation, favoring silly activities and collaborative rule-making. Recognize and harness Ti-Lion's independence and problem-solving skills, incentivizing with sensory rewards and freedom. Understand Ti-Lion's aversion to losing and preference for logical problem-solving, adapting games and communication methods accordingly. Navigate Ti individuals' lower emotional awareness with rational discussions and group activities, fostering emotional intelligence gradually. For type 8 individuals, fairness and justice are paramount, necessitating fair chore distribution and constructive anger expression outlets. Understanding Ti-Lion's extroverted introversion, provide space for solitude and engage in exciting, challenging activities to connect. Bond with Ti-Lion through stimulating activities, avoiding rigid plans, and embracing spontaneity, fostering a dynamic, fulfilling relationship.

  • 64 | Is Your Child Struggling in Reading, Writing or Math? Possible Reasons From a Literacy Specialist
    2025/05/01

Does your child reverse letters and numbers, struggle to read aloud, forget how to spell simple words—or have a hard time memorizing their times tables? Do they seem bright but often frustrated by schoolwork? These could be signs of dyslexia or dysgraphia, which are often present alongside ADHD, making it even harder for kids to focus, retain information, and feel confident in the classroom.

In this episode, I talk with Maggie Pike, a literacy and dyslexia specialist with over 20 years of experience supporting kids with learning differences. We’ll explore:

    • What dyslexia really is—and how to spot it in preschool and elementary-aged kids
    • The root causes of literacy struggles
    • Why kids with dyslexia may also struggle with math, memorization and fine motor skills
    • Practical ways to build strong pre-reading skills at home
    • The surprising gifts and strengths of neurodivergent learners

If your child is struggling in school and you’re not sure why, this episode will help you connect the dots—and move forward with clarity and confidence.

  • 62 | Is Your Child an ISTP? Decode Their Quiet, Strong-Willed and Independent Spirit
    2025/04/21

The ISTP child is a natural-born problem-solver. Quiet, observant, and fiercely independent, they don’t cry for help—they look for tools. In this episode, we break down their four psychological functions: Introverted Thinking (Ti), Extraverted Sensing (Se), Introverted Intuition (Ni), and Extraverted Feeling (Fe), and explore how they shape this hands-on learner at every age and stage. You’ll learn:

    • What ISTP babies need to feel secure and independent
    • How ISTPs learn best (hint: not by sitting still)
    • How to parent an ISTP without micromanaging
    • Their strengths and potential struggles in school, friendships, and adulthood

This type is a mix of quiet calculation and physical capability—and when you understand how they’re wired, you’ll see the brilliance behind their reserved exterior.

Wendy Gossett helps parents understand their children by using temperament psychology and neuroscience. She has over 10,000 hours of experience in education, both in the classroom and corporate sector. Even though she holds a Master’s degree in education, she struggled to understand her neurodivergent and oppositional kids. Inspired by her experience using Myers Briggs and the Enneagram with business teams, she spent over a decade researching temperament pattens to help family teams. She is a best-selling author and host of the Not So Normal Parenting podcast.

Her podcast is entitled Not So Normal Parenting because not only are she and her kids neurodivergent but some of her life experiences, such as driving off a cliff her wedding night and going viral for embarrassing her seventeen-year old son by dancing on a snowy and jammed interstate, fall into that category. In addition to being talked about by Hoda Kotb, the BackStreet Boys, and Princess Kate, even U2 singer Bono mentioned the incident in his autobiography.

Because Wendy herself has struggled as a helicopter parent, a cranky parent and an embarrassing parent, she wants to help other parents struggle……..a little bit less!
