  • Superman Birthright (2003-04) Comic Book Retrospective Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 673
    2025/08/14

Spencer and Ryan are going back to the early 2000s for more Superman good times with a DC Comics graphic novel retrospective review of Birthright. By Mark Waid, Leinil Francis Yu, and Gerry Alanguilan. A lot of the elements in this book are what were used for the latest Superman film. With what might seem like a simple Clark Kent and Lex Luthor origin story for the new millennium, it's defiantly got a lot more depth going with an alternative take on the classic Supes crew. Filled with fantastic artwork and a thrilling story to read.

  • The Boondock Saints (2000) Modern Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 672
    2025/08/10

Spencer and Dave are going back to 2000 to rewatch Troy Duffy's writer and directorial premier, The Boondock Saints. One of the knock off era Tarantino style flicks (which is never a bad thing in our books) that fuses with a Punisher like war on crime stories. With an ultra-Irish Boston flair that just makes you want to be a part of their journey. Featuring Young Indiana Jones himself, Sean Patrick Flanery, with Norman Reedus in one of his first big roles, Billy Connolly as the hitman dad, and Willem Dafoe chewing up the scenery as the flamboyant FBI detective. The movie is just a great fun ride and still holds up as time has passed.

We also go in a bit to the Documentary Overnight, that explains the trials and tribulations on how tough it was to get this movie off the ground and how Troy Duffy found ways to blow it too. The behind-the-scenes stories of The Boondock Saints is almost more fascinating than even the film itself. A good film school education can be had out of the whole experience.

  • Parasite Eve 2 (2000) Retrospective Review - Silent Evil Podcast 12 - Survival Horror RPG
    2025/07/30

Parasite Eve II, how does this game rank amongst the others of the survival horror golden age? How does it compare to the first game? And is this the best-looking game graphically on the PlayStation 1?

Spencer and Cameron are back in another Survival Horror Retrospective Review on the Silent Evil Podcast. This time continuing into part 2 of Aya Brea's journey against the mitochondria terror creatures. If the first game had a Die Hard meets Lethal Weapon vibe, the second one goes for that X-Files take on the investigation. Learning more about how these mutations are occurring and her involvement in the whole crisis.

PE 2 is defiantly a crowning achievement in the graphics department. The gameplay leans more in line with Resident Evil 2 and only keeps a fraction of its RPG heritage. Some mechanics are totally dialed in where other issues keep this game shy of being just as perfect as the first game was. Still, it's well worth the adventure and we will say it does hold up well in the top tier categories of that gold age of horror games. Hopefully Square will bring back Aya's adventures in either a remaster collection, remake, or even another sequel. All good options in our book.

The Plot - Parasite Eve II follows Aya Brea, now an agent for the FBI’s Mitochondrion Investigation and Suppression Team (MIST), as she battles a resurgence of twisted Neo-Mitochondrial Creatures (NMCs) two years after the events in New York. When a mysterious outbreak strikes a small desert town in Nevada, Aya is sent to investigate, uncovering a sinister conspiracy involving rogue experiments, genetic manipulation, and a deadly new strain of mitochondria capable of infecting humans. As she delves deeper, Aya’s own evolving powers become both a weapon and a key to stopping the threat, culminating in a desperate battle against a monstrous entity poised to trigger a global catastrophe.

So, come join us for the run through retrospective discussion, as we deep dive into the lore, gameplay mechanics, and give a retro review on our modern experience. Let us know your thoughts on the game, survival horror titles, and what we should play next.

  • Fantastic Four First Steps & Superman Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 670
    2025/07/28

Spencer and Ryan and talking about the new future of DC and Marvel with their 2 summer blockbuster films, Fantastic Four First Steps and Superman. Both are excellent examples of turning comics into live action films and pushing the two companies forward to the next era. Capturing the characters, vibe, and world of each universe while jumping right into the story without a prolong origin or backstory. These two movies are some of the best examples of how to do the superhero film right.

We go into each movie and have some fun times along the way. Discuss what makes them different from the previous incarnations and the different creators involved.

  • Blade Trinity (2004) Modern Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 669
    2025/07/27

Spencer and Dave are back to watch the third Blade movie in the Wesley Snipes trilogy. Blade Trinity from 2004 featuring Ryan Reynolds, Jessica Biel, Patton Oswalt, Parker Posey, and Triple H joining the crew. Along with even Kris Kristofferson back again. This time, the writer David S. Goyer is given the reigns to direct and issues arise back and forth between him and Snipes throughout the whole production.

The movie is definitely goofy and Blade is oddly not in it a whole lot but on a more modern watch, there is still a lot of fun to be had here in this movie. You see the proto Deadpool of Ryan Reynolds being born here in his character of Hannibal King. Blade goes to fight Dracula, which sounds way cooler than it appears to be on screen. Plus, all the interesting gadgets, gizmos and weapons used to fight off the vampire horde. Here's hoping more Blade movies in the future!

  • Blade 2 (2002) Modern Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 668
    2025/07/17

Spencer and Dave are continuing their Blade trilogy marathon, this time with part 2. The Guillermo del Toro movie that plays out like the Dirty Dozen of Vampire movies. With Wesley Snipes Blade leading the charge. We also forgot about how big this cast is with Kris Kristofferson returning and adding in Ron Perlman, Norman Reedus and an early days for US cinema of Donnie Yen. This movie is action packed to the max, takes the story in a more superhero esk style, and has the mix match of live action martial arts scenes and experimental looking CG in the mix.
