  • Why I Said No: Letting Kids Struggle and Succeed
    2025/05/02

Hey friends! This week’s episode is a real heart-to-heart about a parenting moment that had me second-guessing myself-and then feeling super proud. My son wanted to use his IEP (Individualized Education Program) to skip Shakespeare (yep, the Bard himself!), but I said no. And guess what? He ended up absolutely crushing it.

We talk about why sometimes the best thing we can do for our kids is to let them face hard things-even when it’s tempting to step in and fix everything. There’s something powerful about watching them grow through struggle, and I’m sharing what I learned from this experience.

We also get into the tricky territory of people-pleasing (hello, fellow recovering people-pleasers!) and why trusting the systems around us-teachers, IEPs, school processes-can actually make life easier and help our kids thrive.

If you’re a parent who’s ever wrestled with when to say yes, when to say no, and how to let go just enough, this episode is for you!

What You’ll Hear in This Episode

    • The story behind my son’s Shakespeare challenge and why I decided not to opt him out
    • Why letting kids struggle is one of the best gifts we can give them (spoiler: it builds resilience and confidence!)
    • My personal battle with people-pleasing and how I’m learning to trust the system instead of trying to control everything
    • Practical tips for encouraging independence and supporting your kids through tough moments without swooping in to save the day

    Why This Matters

Parenting is hard, and sometimes the hardest thing is not doing something. But when we let our kids face challenges, we’re helping them build skills that last a lifetime. This episode is a reminder that growth often comes from discomfort-and that saying “no” can sometimes be the most loving thing we do.

    Let’s Chat!

What’s the hardest thing you’ve let your child struggle with? Or maybe you’re in the middle of a tough parenting decision right now? I’d love to hear your stories!
