Over the course of the 140.6 miles of mental and physical battles, I encountered a FEW diabetes disasters that required me to think on my feet..

And ultimately make some decisions that were quite dangerous and could have landed me in the hospital. All things considered, I'm lucky to have finished...

So in today's episode, I share the details on how I pivoted in moments of frustration, uncertainty, and complications with type 1 diabetes that I ran into during my Ironman race.

  • Zig When Diabetes Zags (My 100 Mile Disaster)
    2024/10/15

7 site changes, 2 vials of insulin, 1 meltdown... What do you do when diabetes doesn't follow the "rules" anymore?

I'll be transparent - I had a hard week with diabetes.I made it work... as we all do... but it was a tough one.

What made it even tougher is that it ended with me heading into my biggest Ironman training block ever...

100 miles on the bike, 10 miles on a run.

And believe it or not... blood sugars......... still didn't cooperate.

They did, however, give me a really interesting lesson through the disaster (as they always do it you're willing to listen to them).

In today's episode I walk through the enormous amount of insulin needed to stay in range during my century bike ride...

As well as the distinction discovered through my training block that allowed me to "recover" my diabetes management amidst the chaos.

Give it a listen for the lesson, stay for the ridiculous story.

  • Controlling Chaotic Blood Sugars with Something Experimental
    2024/10/01

Blood sugar experiments don't always go according to plan, and this one definitely did not...

    At first.

Or second, third, fourth, and so on.

    But then something clicked...

    Something magical...

    Something... calculated.

In today's episode, I share about an ongoing blood sugar experiment that honestly, has had me terrified every time I ran it because of how dangerous it was.

But... and I don't want to give away the big surprise that I share in this episode... but, I figured it out and the experiment finally WORKED

If you've ever tried to experiment with blood sugars (or wanted to) and run into challenges or difficulty, I also walk through my exact process for experimenting with chaotic blood sugars - safely.

I think you'll like this one, enjoy.

  • THIS is why ADHD and Type 1 Diabetes Don't Mix
    2024/09/24

Whether you've got ADHD like me or not, T1D is often too much to keep track of while living your life...

And when we overlook blood sugar variables, they tend to "remind" us that they are worth paying attention to.

Case and point - insulin on board and running errands (or doing chores) can often lead to a big drop for me.

In today's episode I breakdown my recent "ah-ha" moment with this while out on an 85 mile bike ride and 20 mile run (it was a LONG Ironman training day), with a lesson that you might find helps to simplify diabetes and demystify those frustrating "sneak attack" blood sugars.
