The Oct. 7, 2023, surprise attack was the start of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. The fate of about 100 people still in captivity remains uncertain, taking a serious toll on their families and close friends, which include people in the Philadelphia region. Dozens of Bob Casey supporters rallied for the incumbent Pennsylvania senator on Sunday as he vies for re-election against Republican challenger Dave McCormick. Nick Castellanos came through with a ninth-inning walk-off to give the Phillies a 7-6 win over the Mets for Game 2.

    The KYW Newsradio All Local October 5th, 2024 (Midday Edition) A young woman who was shot and nearly killed outside a North Philadelphia convenience store two years ago is suffering from debilitating brain damage. And now, the woman who pulled the trigger will spend at least a decade behind bars. A teenager is in critical condition after being shot multiple times aboard a SEPTA bus in Fairhill. Police also made an arrest after a car chase led officers to a nearby corner in North Philadelphia. KYW’s Nigel Thompson has the details. Police say a man is dead after a shooting this morning in West Philadelphia. They tell us it happened just after 9:30am inside a home on 52nd street near Thompson. They say a 25 year old man was shot several times in the chest and stomach. He was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly there after. Police offering a $20,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest or conviction. Philadelphia police say they’re revamping the block party application review process and hope to have new standards in place by next summer. KYW’s City Hall bureau chief Pat Loeb reports police officials were called to a city council hearing, this week, to explain why so many permit requests get rejected.

Police also made an arrest after a car chase led officers to a nearby corner in North Philadelphia. Aramark and their unionized food service workers, Unite Here Local 274, confirm the four-day strike ended, but union members say they’re still demonstrating as part of an ongoing campaign to get family-sustaining wage increases. A national organization, that supports the work of community groups working to reduce gun violence, is investing $2 million in grants to 34 programs.

    The KYW Newsradio All-Local - Thursday, October 3, 2024 (Evening Edition) Philadelphia police have arrested a man they say sexually assaulted a young girl after he broke into a home in the city’s Mayfair neighborhood last month. A $300-million civil lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a Camden County man who was shot during an apparent road rage incident. The suit alleges the suspected gunman, an off duty New York cop, should not have been allowed to possess a gun. PennDOT announces “operation yellow jacket,” a partnership with State Police aimed at getting drivers to slow down and pay attention in work zones. Stores in the Philadelphia suburbs are reporting a sharp uptick in toilet paper and paper towel sales, suggesting that some people are panic buying in response to the port strike
