    2025/07/21

    Send us a text

First up for 1992: Brad's all-time favorite band R.E.M. and their masterpiece album Automatic for the People. Even though it is filled with themes of death, this album is beautiful in every way and was a creative peak for one of America's best ever bands. From Everybody Hurts to Man on the Moon to Nightswimming and more, we break it all down and sing its praises throughout.

In addition to the album we share many of our R.E.M. favorite songs and albums. Capping it off is a draft of our favorite bands of all time to tie into the theme of the show. Don't give yourself a raw deal. Go on a Drive , turn this episode on, and sweetness will be sure to follow.

  • 1987: U2 - The Joshua Tree with Craig Arnold / Top 5 Music
    2025/07/17

    Send us a text

Great band, great album, great guest. U2's The Joshua Tree is an iconic album and just so happens to be Brad's favorite album of all-time. This record left an indelible mark on music and catapulted U2 to worldwide fame. We break it down one song at a time for you.

Joining us this week is Craig Arnold, who we consider somewhat of a music expert. A huge U2 fan, he also has a few years on us, so his perspective adds plenty of insight to the discussion. From other U2 albums to the 30th anniversary tour for The Joshua Tree, we cover a lot of ground. We also share our top music of 1987 overall. We hope you find what you're looking for!

  • 2002: Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head / Most Polarizing Bands
    2025/07/14

    Send us a text

What makes for a polarizing band? Does Coldplay fit description for you? While being one of the world's biggest bands, they definitely have some haters as well. But back when A Rush of Blood to the Head came out, they were hugely popular. Listen as we remember how this album fit into our mid 20's as we go song by song. If you happen to be a hater, we may just alter your opinion a little bit. Who knows?

We then get into a discussion of bands that we love to hate...or hate to love...or seem like a joke, yet are still popular. Any way you cut it, they are polarizing. Do you think Nickelback will be mentioned? Listen now. Set your Clocks, as you are In your Place.

  • 2005: How I Met Your Mother / Top 5 Sitcoms of All-Time
    2025/07/10

    Send us a text

Our first topic for 2005 is the classic sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Brad chose this after watching the whole series as it was aired, and then after reliving its brilliance on a second watch a year ago. We break down a couple of the early episodes, including the pilot, but we get into much more. Giff is also a huge fan, and now Pete is on his way as well.

In addition to our discussion of the show, we each also share our top 5 sitcoms of all-time. Does HIMYM make the cut? Does your favorite show match up with one of us? Listen and find out!

  • 2002: Scrubs / Top Sitcom Bromances
    2025/07/07

    Send us a text

Giff's choice for 2002 is Scrubs. This little show that could spanned 9 years and two networks. Known for it's zaniness, it also had a ton of heart. Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley and others plus a bevy of guest stars helped create a series we all loved. We discuss two episodes from season two that represent the show at its best.

Our other topic is sitcom bromances. JD and Turk shared a special bond (Giff calls it one of the best love stories ever told). So we delve into the best sitcom guy pairings of all-time. Listen to hear what made our lists!

  • Special Insert: Gear Daddies and Minnesota Music with The 70s vs. the 80s Podcast!
    2025/06/30

    Send us a text

We all have those bands we love that maybe fly under the radar or stay local. For many of us from Minnesota, Gear Daddies is one of those bands. They flashed in the late 80s and early 90s, captivated audiences and were gone just as fast (though they still reunite and play today from time to time). We've enlisted fellow Minnesota podcast The 70s vs. the 80s to help us remember the band and play a Name that Tune style trivia game. You're going to learn a lot if you listen to this one.

Not focusing solely on Gear Daddies, we also draft favorite songs from Minnesota artists/songs that reference Minnesota. To cover more ground, we've removed Prince and Bob Dylan from consideration. Check out the fun now, then check out The 70s vs. the 80s podcast when you're done!
