REPLAY: Ep. 116: Dr. Julie Stamm-Concussion Concerns

  • サマリー

  • Dr. Stamm is an athletic trainer, neuroscientist and concussion researcher. She recently wrote a book on how concussions and repetitive impacts can affect the brain of the developing of young children. This is obviously a big deal and it has become even more of a discussion with some of the high profile injuries that have occurred in the NFL. In this episode we talk about what has been happening with these injuries and a lot of the details around them and what it all means. We discuss the fencing response, second impact syndrome, and the ability for patients to make informed decisions after suffering a traumatic brain injury. Each of these topics is huge and could take an entire episode but we discuss the basics of each to create a baseline for discussion going forward and also highlight the importance of being conservative when managing these injuries. Please enjoy this conversation with Dr. Stamm. Book: The Brain on Youth Sports. (Link: https://amzn.to/3V4LEzb ) In this Episode: +The fencing response +What the brain stem does +Second impact syndrome +Diagnostics around concussion +Pressure to retune patients after concussion +Diagnostic options in the future for concussion Connect Twitter: @JulieStammPhD Instagram: @jluiestammphd Facebook: Julie Stamm PhD www.juliestamm.com www.athletictrainingchat.com www.cliniallypressed.org SUBSCRIBE:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc3WyCs2lmnKK6shrL5A4hw?sub_confirmation=1#ATCchat #ATtwitter #complicatedsimple #atimpact #at4all #nata #boc #bocatc #athletictraining #athletictrainingchat #health #medicine #medical #careeverywhere #service #marketing #ATvalue #concussion #fencing #secondimpactsyndrome
