  • Review: My Son 2021
    2024/11/21

How far are you willing to find your son who's missing? Maybe willing to take a blow torch to a man's foot? This is what Edmond does when his son Ethan goes missing while his ex wife Joan tries to cope with it. A stellar performance by James McAvoy with his character being completely improv, but it doesn't quite help the story that feels rushed or the loose ends that never get solved by the end of it. We're not sure if the original is better and will maybe check that out one day but overall a fun watch because when you go searching for your son, sometimes you gotta bring down a kidnapping syndicate.

  • Review: Barton Fink
    2024/11/14

In the age of cinema its hard for many writers to get their point across, especially if they are told to write a B wrestling film as their first. This happens to Barton as he goes from widely regarded broadway writer to his first gig in the film industry. What unfolds is betrayal from his idol, no friends except for a murderer, constant anxiety, and a woman dead in his room. A film that deserves more credit due to the story telling and dark humor that it creates. People may think he's a write off, but to us, he's a creator.

  • Product Placement In Film
    2024/11/10

The world of films is meant to distract you from everything in the real world, transporting you to a fantasy otherwise unknown to you, except when a Pepsi can appears. Products in films are used to generate more buy ins with companies to build funding for films but also can take you out of them and subliminally get you to buy. Today we discuss the pros and cons to this, so we ask you to listen in as we get bought out by Gatorade with product placements in films.

  • Review: The Crow 1994
    2024/11/07

How far would you go for love? Are you willing to come back from the dead to seek revenge? This is the plot of Eric and Shelly who are brutally murdered only for one year later Eric returns as the crow to kill Top Dollar and his crew that orchestrated the crime. While this film may not have aged very well, it still is a fun comic book film with interesting deaths, decent CGI and a great performance from the late Brandon Lee. It truly deserves to be a cult classic talked about for victims because "victims, aren't we all?"

  • Review: Mr. Sandman
    2024/11/03

Once in a lifetime opportunity as we actually got to speak to the director Matthew Schmidt and review his short film. When a young girl Zoe is plagued by the sandman for not going to bed, sh experiences horrors from your worst nightmares. A great debut in the cinematic style with practical effects, creepy images, a creature reminiscent of the original folklore and a love for the craft shown throughout this short film, its no wonder this is a sandman that will not be bringing you a dream.

  • Review: Beau Is Afraid
    2024/10/31

It is Halloween night, the last episode this year of spooky scary films and we end it with a fear that we all seem to have, anxiety. A mind bending of a film starring Beau who learns that his mother has died and must travel to her home for the funeral. With that short synopsis, this film is easily in our opinion Ari Asters best work blending his use of time lapse, unconventional scares and a story that at some times feels like a hero's saga all while making you, the audience feel uncomfortable the entire time. You must watch this film to feel the full effect if you are a Aster fan and "every minute you wait, deepens the humiliation".
