    The old movie theater on Maple Street had been abandoned for decades, its once-grand facade now crumbling and overgrown with ivy. Local teenagers often dared each other to spend a night inside, but few ever made it past the boarded-up entrance. That is, until Sarah and her friends decided to break in on Halloween night.Sarah, Mike, and Emily had been best friends since childhood, and they were determined to make their last Halloween before college one to remember. They had heard all the stories about the haunted theater, but they were skeptical. Armed with flashlights, snacks, and a portable DVD player, they pried open a rusty side door and slipped inside.The air inside was thick with dust and the musty smell of decay. Cobwebs clung to every surface, and the beam of their flashlights revealed peeling movie posters from a bygone era. As they made their way through the lobby, Sarah couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched."Let's set up in one of the screening rooms," Mike suggested, his voice echoing in the empty space. They found the largest theater and settled into the moldy seats, their excitement slowly giving way to unease.Emily pulled out the DVD player and a stack of horror movies they had brought along. "What should we watch first?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly.As if in response, a scratching sound emanated from the walls around them. The friends exchanged nervous glances, but Mike laughed it off. "Probably just rats," he said, though he didn't sound convinced.They decided on a classic slasher film and huddled together as the opening credits rolled. The movie's eerie soundtrack seemed to reverberate through the entire building, making them jump at every creak and groan.Halfway through the film, Sarah noticed something odd. But instead of their movie, it showed grainy black-and-white footage of the theater itself, filled with patrons dressed in clothes from the 1950s.The image flickered and changed, showing the same theater, but now empty and decaying. And there, in the center of the frame, were three terrified teenagers, staring up at the screen in horror.Sarah, Mike, and Emily saw themselves, frozen in fear, watching their own images on the massive screen. But behind them, barely visible in the shadows, was a figure. Tall and gaunt, with a face like a grinning skull, it moved closer to the oblivious teens with each flicker of the film.Panic set in, and they ran. Through the labyrinthine corridors of the old theater they fled, the sound of that terrible laughter always just behind them. Portraits on the walls seemed to follow them with their eyes, and more than once, Sarah could have sworn she saw faces peering out from behind torn curtains.They burst out of the side door and into the cool night air, gasping and trembling. As they caught their breath, Mike turned to look back at the theater. For a brief moment, he saw a face in one of the upper windows - the same skeletal visage they had seen on the screen. Sarah found herself unable to watch horror movies, always fearing that the monsters on the screen might someday reach out and pull her in.
