So much depends on Oklahoma transfer quarterback Jackson Arnold, a top-10 player in high school class whose 2024 season didn’t live up to expectations on an OU offense gutted by injury. Will a revitalized Arnold hit his ceiling in Hugh Freeze’s offense?

He’s helped by perhaps the best pass-catching duo the country in Cam Coleman and Georgia Tech transfer Eric Singleton, plus, the return of Malcom Simmons as a capable third wideout.

The Tigers return some experience at running back in Damani Austin and Jeremiah Cobb.

Auburn returns its middle-of-the-offensive-line starters in Dillon Wade, Connor Lew and Jeremiah Wright, plus talented tackle transfer Xavier Chaplin.

Auburn’s defense is led by end Keldric Faulk, a preseason All-SEC pick and a potential 2026 NFL first-rounder.

The Tigers return Kayin Lee and Jay Crawford off good 2024 seasons, and added another eight transfers who could see time on the two-deep, including Liberty’s Jay Hardy and Arkansas State’s Keyron Crawford.

Coach Hugh Freeze enters the season on the hot seat, and an interesting first-half of the schedule could have a lot to do with how things go for Freeze, who has his most talented Auburn team yet.

LaNorris Sellers was so outstanding in the second half that he’s now considered a future NFL first-rounder. The Gamecocks' hopes revolve around one of the NCAA’s fastest-rising stars.

The Gamecocks need mega-talent Nyck Harbor to step up.

South Carolina has a very experienced offensive line, including some off-season transfer additions.

Mainstream expectation is that the defense will take a step back, but Dylan Stewart is one of the country’s top defenders and coach Shane Beamer has done an outstanding job of developing defensive talent recently.

Carolina has a special-teams rebuild, but that’s an area where Beamer excels. Mason Love will be the rare kicker-punter leading the way.

In case you haven’t heard, the Vols have a quarterback change, with Joey Aguilar slated to lead the offense.

Tennessee has used three running backs effectively throughout Josh Heupel’s career; this year, the Vols return the productive duo of DeSean Bishop and Peyton Lewis and add Duke’s Star Thomas in an attempt to replace SEC Player of the Year Dylan Sampson.

The Vols don’t return a lot of production at wide receiver, but former blue-chip recruit Mike Matthews could have a breakthrough season and tight end Miles Kitselman is a good one.

Tennessee added transfers Wendell Moe (Arizona) and Sam Pendleton (Notre Dame) to talented left tackle Lance Heard, who returns.

The Vols lost James Pearce Jr. but return a lot of what was a deep front seven last year, with Joshua Josephs, Bryson Eason and Arion Carter leading the way.

On the back end, All-American Jermod McCoy, Rickey Gibson and the versatile Boo Carter give Tennessee play-makers there, too.

It’s finally Arch Manning time in Austin! A look at what the junior can do in his first year as a starter. Manning will have tons of established offensive weapons, including Tre Wisner, CJ Baxter, Jerrick Gibson, Ryan Wingo, DeAndre Moore, Emmitt Mosley V and Jack Endries. Texas loses a lot of offensive line talent, but Trevor Goosby and DJ Campbell appear to be the stars on a rebuilt offensive line. The Longhorns are loaded in a front seven that includes Ethan Burke, All-American Colin Simmons, Trey Moore and Anthony Hill Jr., and a number of transfers including Travis Shaw (North Carolina), Maraad Watson (Syracuse) and Cole Brevard (Purdue). Texas has preseason All-Americans in Malik Muhammad and Michael Taaffe in the secondary, too.
