This week’s Energy Pod takes you back to World Water Day 2023, in March, when the United Nations (UN) launched a new water action agenda to highlight the continued urgency of our water crisis and report on progress made against their sustainable development goals. Featuring highlights from ABB’s Decoded podcast, it serves as a reality check of what needs to be done to meet the UN goals, with ABB research showing that wastewater treatment capacity needs to increase annually by 8.56 billion cubic meters – which means investment in an additional 469 treatment facilities per year.
Two specialists from ABB discuss the water scarcity crisis - in which 2.2 billion people lack access to safely managed drinking water, more than 4.2 billion people lack safely managed sanitation, and a staggering 80 percent of wastewater flows back into the ecosystem without being treated or reused - and how technology can help solve it.
Tune in to hear why addressing this crisis is more important than ever, and more specifically, how wastewater treatment can play a part in addressing global water scarcity.
