  • Education, job interviews, mentorship and self development for nurses
    2024/09/22

Today I chat with Lisa Lucas who is one half of The Hive.

Both Lisa and Muireann Wynne have nursed for an extensive period of time and both hold senior positions within Qld Health in their respective areas. Lisa in education and Muireann in management.

Together they developed a business that offers a myriad of services to help nurses grow professionally, obtain that next position, learn valuable interview skills and write an impactful resume.

We talk about the little things that can make a huge difference in having a successful job interview and believe me, it’s the little things that are noted!

Both these ladies are passionate advocates for nurses and our profession. They, like me, believe we need to support each other, continue to grow our profession and develop nursing through research, education and self awareness.

Check out their website for further information.

  • IVF, reproductive health, cycle tracker apps and women’s health
    2024/09/15

Today we chat with the remarkable nurse, Sam Costa.

Sam is a powerhouse of information around women’s health, gynaecology, reproductive medicine and IVF.

She has her Masters of Midwifery, Masters of Reproductive medicine and women’s health medicine and is currently studying her Masters of Nurse practitioner studies.

After researching period tracker apps, Sam recognised a major flaw in a lot of the apps on the market, so Sam and her business partners have launched an app called Charli Health. It is a period tracker, gynaecological app and destined to have other areas around women’s health added to the app.

Sam is proof that nurses are so much more than care givers. We can be entrepreneurs, leaders in our specialities and research gurus!

Enjoy our chat. I know I did and am in awe of Sam and all she has achieved.I’m

  • Pregnancy, relationships, and doing life
    2024/09/08

.Today we chat with Karni Lidell.

Karni was born with a muscle wasting disease, but this hasn’t stopped her living life to the fullest.

Karni is a powerhouse of knowledge around the rights of people with disabilities. She has been a para-olympian, twice, and is a highly regarded human rights activist.

She has her Masters of Social Work, and works within the Domestic Violence space. She is a sought after speaker and is passionate about giving those without a voice a megaphone.

Karni never takes herself seriously and loves a good laugh, although she is constantly in pain. She fights hard for other people’s rights, but also has her own day to day struggles.

She is honest and raw in today’s podcast. She discusses her own mental health challenges, how she deals with daily discrimination and how exhausting being an activist is.

This episode is one not to be missed!

  • Age is no barrier to research
    2024/09/01

.On the podcast today I chat with Debra Klages.

Debra is a mental health nurse who completed her PhD when she was 67.

Being a mother of a son who has schizophrenia has given Debra a different perspective when handling mental health patients and she willingly shares her knowledge.

Debra is also an advocate of compassion in nursing to self and to others. When compassion is shared and not empathy, the burnout rate of nurses is much lower.

She has numerous published articles and is a wealth of knowledge which she is so willing to share.

    Enjoy this episode.

  • Burnout and career changes
    2024/08/18

Today we speak with Chris who has worked for the last 12 years within the Qld Police Child Trauma Unit.

Recently Chris, had to change units due to the fatigue to her body and mind. The deployment and what she dealt with daily, finally impacted her in a way that she knew she had to leave the unit.

This is such a raw and honest talk about losing your identity, finding new pathways and goals, and what impact that has on you.

We chat about self care and tenderness, especially in high stress roles. Whether that be nursing, policing, paramedics or medical. We MUST care for ourselves first and foremost to be able to care for others.

This chat really impacted me. Chris is an amazing police woman who put children first at all times.

I am in awe of her strength and courage.
