As the Giants and Dodgers head towards a historic first meeting in the postseason in 2021...maybe this isn't the first meeting after all.  There was one other meeting, over a century ago, in the World's Series.

To understand how it happened, and how these teams changed baseball, we have to start by talking about the beginnings of Major League Baseball.  Baseball quit New York, to make room for the teams that would later come...why did they do that, and how well did it go?  How did the National League create its own worst enemy?  And we meet a baseball player who's better at talking than playing, and he takes on an impossible dream...to bring Major League baseball back to New York City.

The American Association and the National League both want into New York City, so John B. Day and Jim Mutrie come up with an unexpected answer.  Brooklyn gets new hometown heroes.  Jim Mutrie calls up an old friend and makes him a bet, and in the process changes professional sports forever.

The Giants and Brooklyn set up their epic first postseason meeting, but they also set up the end of this era of baseball.  After the win, past sins come back to tear baseball, and these teams, apart.  And...a little summary of what came next.
