On this episode of The Cine-Files, Steve Morris and John Rocha continue their month long tribute to Donald Sutherland with Part 2 of their discussion on 1980 Best Picture Winner ORDINARY PEOPLE. The film, based on Judith Guest's book of the same name, stars Sutherland, Mary Tyler Moore, and Timothy Hutton as a family in crisis navigating the death of their first born son and the near suicide of their younger son (Hutton). The film stars Sutherland Elliot Gould, Tom Skerrit, Robert Duvall, Roger Bowen, Rene Auberjonois and Sally Kellerman. Based on MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors by Richard Hooker, the film depicts a unit of medical personnel stationed at a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) during the Korean War. It won the Palme d'Or, at the 1970 Cannes Film Festival and received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and won for Best Adapted Screenplay. Steve and John finish off their discussion of this classic comedy film and see if it holds up to 2024 eyes today!
