サマリー
あらすじ・解説
In the year 1915, the world is locked in the horrors of World War I. The battlefront stretches across Europe, where men are reduced to numbers in a brutal conflict that seems to have no end. Amidst the endless trenches, barbed wire, and mud, there is no respite.
Soldiers fight not only against one another but against the endless cycle of trauma through death and despair that defines the war.Friedrich Adler, a German officer, is one such soldier.
He has fought in countless engagements on the Eastern Front, Each day is a struggle to hold onto his humanity, even as the war threatens to strip it away. The faces of his comrades, once full of hope, are now hardened by the violence they endure. Their eyes are hollow, their spirits broken.
The Eastern Front is a place where battles are fought in isolated, harsh landscapes — in endless trenches, deep forests, and desolate plains. It is here, near the small fortress of Osowiec, that Friedrich finds himself stationed.
The fortress is a symbol of Russian strength, a fortified hold on the vast expanse of Eastern Europe. Its massive walls, thick with the echoes of history, serve as the last line of defense for the Russian Empire against the German advance.
Friedrich is no stranger to the sounds of artillery or the stench of death. He and his unit have fought for every inch of ground. Yet even in this terrible conflict, he holds on to the small hope that the war will soon be over.
His thoughts often drift back home to his wife, Emma, and their young daughter, Anna. The letters he receives from them are his only solace. He dreams of a time when the frontlines will fade away and he can return to the life he once knew.
But as the battle of Osowiec looms ever closer, the world as Friedrich knows it is about to change forever.
Here, in the heart of the East, something much darker and far more terrifying is about to awaken, and his experience with the horrors of war will no longer be enough to prepare him for the nightmare ahead…
