  • How To Invest For Your Children (Junior Stocks & Shares ISA, Junior SIPP and more)
    2024/10/28

Iain from @IainJGeddes joins me on this episode of the podcast to talk about investing for your children.

If you don’t currently have children, this is useful future information. Even if you don’t want children, you can hopefully pass on this knowledge to friend's children, nephews and nieces.

We have three main options: Junior Stocks & Shares ISA, Junior SIPP, or using part of your own adult Stocks & Shares ISA allowance.

Each option has different pros and cons.

The key with the two ‘Junior’ options is that the money legally becomes your child’s at 18 (Junior Stocks & Shares ISA) or at 55 (Junior SIPP).

If you’re skeptical they may misuse the money, or you just want more control, you can use part of your own adult ISA allowance - assuming you have some left - to invest for your children.

The greatest asset that children have is time. Due to compound interest, even small amounts contributed today have the chance to grow for decades to come.

  • Investing & Taxes Explained (everything you need to know about taxes when investing)
    2024/08/27

In this video I go through everything that you need to know about investing and taxes in the UK.

This includes the 3 main vehicles we can use to invest in the UK - ISAs, pensions and general investment accounts.

And the 3 main 'phases' of investing - before investing, during investing (i.e when we are invested in something) and when withdrawing.

Ultimately, ISAs and pensions have great tax advantages. So if possible, make the most of these.

But, GIAs do have their place in specific situations. Not to mention that for some types of investments (e.g crypto) we can only use GIAs to invest.

Just be aware that with GIAs we may be liable to pay capital gains tax and/or dividends tax.

Capital gains tax arises when we sell, and the allowance is currently £3,000 per tax year.

Dividend tax arises when we earn dividends and this happens when we're investing as most funds pay dividends, and the allowance is currently £500 per tax year.

  • How I Invested £100,000+ In 5 Global Funds
    2024/07/29

It's no secret that I am a fan of global funds.

I am largely just a global index fund investor.

Why? Because it keeps my approach as simple and as diverse as possible.

Across my various investing accounts, and there are a lot of them (as we go through in the podcast), I usually solely invest into the lowest cost, most globally diversified fund I can find.

And I recently passed a huge milestone. After 7 years of investing, I now have £100,000+ in global funds.

So in the podcast episode, we go through the exact global funds I am investing into. Including what they're called, how many stocks they hold, what fees they charge, and more.

  • 11 Extra Side Hustle Income Streams (Making An Extra £1,912 In 2 Months)
    2024/07/01

Thomas (@thebankengine) joined me on this episode to talk about how he makes extra income each month - specifically a whopping £1,912 across April and May 2024.

Not just in the last two months though, Tom the bank (or tank 🚂) engine has been making thousands of additional pounds across the last few years.

This is all through extra income streams/extra side hustles that he has, some completely passive income streams and some more active income streams.

Tom has 11 extra income streams in total, and the great thing is that these are all real income streams. No income stream 'ideas' or 'hacks', real side hustle income streams that make him money.

People always ask about how to make some extra money or for side hustle ideas to make money - so hopefully this episode will help!

These 11 extra income streams include: 1) Cashback & points - e.g EverUp, Jam Doughnut. 2) Cashback sign up offers. 3) Bank switching. 4) Market research - e.g Take Part In Research, Askable. 5) Mystery shopping - e.g Roamler. 6) Surveys. 7) Matched betting. 8) Affiliate sign up offers. 9) Lifetime ISA interest + bank interest on savings. 10) Dividends. 11) Side business.

In the podcast episode we go through this full list, discussing each option, the pros and cons, drawing on our own experiences, potential costs or risks involved, specific examples, and a lot more.

This is exactly how I invested £6,505 so far in 2024.

  • Are UK Investors Worse Off Than US Investors Due To FX?
    2024/02/28

Jasper (@jasperinvests) joined me on this episode to talk about FX rates and how they impact us as UK investors. A very important topic that most aren't aware of.

First, we discussed the S&P 500 returns for US investors compared to UK investors. Surprisingly, and we dug into the historical data, the returns can vary massively in any individual year.

There can be huge swings and differences in returns that US and UK investors receive in any given year, all because of FX.

However, over the long term, FX rates generally tend to be stable between the major currencies. Although, and as expected, in the short term this isn't always the case.

We spoke through two ways to mitigate this FX risk and whether it's worth to mitigate this risk at all.

Finally, we touched on global index funds and the impact of FX.

    2024/02/06

Emma from Bee Money Savvy (@beemoneysavvy) - a previous winner of Best Money Saving Blog - joined me on this episode to talk about two things. 1) Her blogging journey, where she now makes more money than her day job and 2) three key money saving tips that you should implement.

First, we talk about Emma’s blogging journey and how she turned her side hustle into a money maker, all whilst continuing to work her day job for the NHS.
