“These seven albums are an excellent example of the rapid transformation of rock ‘n’ roll from the glammed-out excesses of hair metal to the stripped-down, antiestablishment aesthetics of the diverse set of bands given the convenient umbrella term “grunge.” Even the entries from Metallica, the Chilis, and GNR, though definitely not grunge, felt unique and, most importantly, authentic.” (Sweetwater)

“In recent years, as Lollapalaooza tries to diversify its lineup, organizers will throw in that wild card, odd sock band that has some scratching their heads and others totally jazzed at the surprise. In 2025, that distinction wholly went to Korn. Since forming in Bakersfield, California in 1993, the nu metal founding fathers have kept a steady following (12 million on Facebook alone) but have largely been a festival fringe act, mostly relegated to prominent metal gatherings and European and UK events like Download and Hellfest, or even their own infamous Family Values Tour. In those environments, Korn draws tens of thousands to see their pulsating mix of screeching guitars, loaded basslines, detonating drums and frontman Jonathan Davis’ aggressive barking that have become a consistent draw. But at Lollapalooza, not so much. The last time Korn played the festival, it was 1997 when the event was still touring the country. To put that into perspective, Olivia Rodrigo wasn’t even born yet, and that detail became a proverbial line in the sand that divided the audience on Friday night for their headliner choices.” (Chicago Sun Times – Selena Fragassi)

“When it comes to putting shows together, there are few people more important than the roadies and techs that make sure shit runs smoothly. Without them, you’d have bands doing all the work and while that’s fine for smaller acts or kids getting their feet under them, it’s impossible for major acts touring all over the world. So you’d think an act like Slaughter To Prevail would hire a tour manager that would make sure the people making the shows run would be properly taken care of. Yet according to allegations from the band’s (now former) drum tech Thomas Finch, that’s allegedly not been the case. In a post on his personal Facebook account over the weekend, he laid out a working condition that at face value seems exploitative, abusive, and likely illegal. And while he claims the band themselves are “all WONDERFUL, fun, loving humans,” his main beef lands squarely at their management. Finch’s statement alleges that all of the issues happened while the band was on its run with Marilyn Manson and deals with Slaughter To Prevail’s “new band manager and current [tour manager’s]” alleged “disorganization, mismanagement, financial instability, and blatant disrespect toward crew members.” (Loudwire)

It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning," his family said in a statement on Tuesday (July 22). “John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne (3 December 1948 – 22 July 2025) was an English singer, songwriter, and media personality. He rose to prominence during the 1970s as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath, during which period he adopted the nickname "Prince of Darkness". Osbourne became a founding member of Black Sabbath in 1968, providing lead vocals from their eponymous debut studio album in 1970 to Never Say Die! in 1978. The band was highly influential in the development of heavy metal music, in particular their critically acclaimed releases Paranoid (1970), Master of Reality (1971), and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973). Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to problems with alcohol and other drugs. He then began a successful solo career with Blizzard of Ozz in 1980 and released 13 studio albums, the first seven of which received multi-platinum certifications in the US. He reunited with Black Sabbath on several occasions. He rejoined in 1997 and helped record the band's final studio album, 13 (2013), before they embarked on a farewell tour that ended with a 2017 performance in their native Birmingham.” (Wiki)

SONG OF THE WEEK: The Pretty Wild “living ded” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHF6YGfGRM8

“My Chemical Romance kicked off their Long Live the Black Parade tour in Seattle last weekend in grand, theatrical fashion — though some casual observers have expressed confusion and criticized the band’s “weird demonic” stunts and “theatrical propaganda. My Chemical Romance are playing their landmark 2006 album, The Black Parade, in full on their latest tour — and much of the online discourse stems from one key moment during last Saturday’s tour kickoff show. Between “Welcome to the Black Parade” and “I Don’t Love You,” frontman Gerard Way led the audience in an “experiment” and “a practice of democracy.” The band trotted out four “candidates” with sacks over their heads and held an “election,” beckoning audience members to hold up a sign that said either “YEA” or “NAY.” Apparently, the majority of the audience voted “NAY,” as the four candidates were “shot” execution-style and removed from the B-stage on which they stood. “Thank you so very much for participating in democracy,” Way said with a wry smile before the band continued playing.” (Loudwire)

BACK TO THE BEGINNING Was Great! (Farewell Ozzy!) = https://youtu.be/qDGi6c6_9Us

“Back to the Beginning was a concert by the English rock band Black Sabbath, with a number of supporting artists. It took place on 5 July 2025 at Villa Park in Aston, Birmingham, England, very near where the band was formed in 1968. The event concluded with the final live performances of both the band and lead singer Ozzy Osbourne; it also marked the first time since 2005 that the original line-up of the band (Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward) had performed together live. Osbourne, no longer able to walk due to advanced Parkinson's disease, sang while seated on a throne. The widely-lauded concert was streamed worldwide via pay per view with a broadcast delay. It featured an all-star lineup of supporting acts, including two supergroups of musicians serving as the house band. Proceeds from the event totalled £140 million, and will be donated to charity.” (Wiki)

“Everybody wants a piece of humble pie apparently, as ex-Asking Alexandria frontman Dennis Stoff fires off on Instagram about the band's recent shoddy performance at Warped Tour, and the fact that they – according to Stoff – owe him $5,000,000 in unpaid royalties. Dennis Stoff was a member of Asking Alexandria from 2015 to 2016, through the duration of their The Black record. Current vocalist Danny Worsnop fronted the band from 2008 until 2015 before leaving for almost two years and rejoining in 2016. Dennis Stoff was the frontman during this time.” (Metal Injection)
