Where Art and Grief Meet

著者: Sophia Cosmas
  • サマリー

  • Where Art & Grief Meet is an exploration of the space where the creative spirit mingles with grief, loss and adversity. Sophia, a compulsive artist who has experienced her own fair share of adversity and grief, talks with a range of notable and passionate creatives (visual, writers, musicians, entrepreneurs) to reflect and share observations and responses to the question of how their art practice is impacted by the slings and arrows of a life, acknowledging of course that grief comes in an infinite number of shapes and forms: personal and global and everything in between. There is no hierarchy of grief here. Loss, in this context, is viewed as an inevitable part of life and a prism through which we explore artistic practice and expression. Sophia is interested in building a space where creatives can openly discuss their observations, their stories and the resulting strategies in order to alleviate isolation, make broader connections and create a supportive community. • Ep.8 Garry Moore
    2022/11/01

    Episode 8

This episode has been a little delayed. Apologies.

Creativity is an intrinsic part of Garry Moore's expression. He has worked with a camera in hand for almost 40 years, mostly in the commercial space, but has always been able to find ways of expressing his creative compulsion no matter what.

Garry and I talk about his creative background and what value creativity lends to his life. He discusses his creative process, and talks about how his awareness and intent lends value to his personal pursuits and experiences.

Garry's website contains some artistic jewels as well as a catalogue of his commercial work. I urge you to look, particularly at Thanatos, which is a series of images he describes the process of creating in this episode. .

Garry and his talented wife and partner, Veronica own and run production agency Miss Bossy Boots.

  • Ep.7 Marina Strocchi
    2022/09/30

    Episode 7

I felt very privileged to meet Marina Strocchi and thrilled all over again when I had the chance to revisit our conversation to edit this episode.

Marina is an artist whose work I have loved for well over a decade, What was unbelievably special was that when I approached her for a chat I really only the most cursory idea of her story and none of the depth of her insight into artmaking and its relationship to healing and growth, particularly in Australia's remote indigenous communities.

Marina has a terrific website and you can follow her on instagram. The link to the short film about her Survey show is here.

You can find more information about The Ikuntji Artist community she was instrumental in establishing on their website and instagram.

The Ikuntji Book can be found second hand.

    Enjoy!

  • Ep.6 Margo Tantau

    Episode 6

It's an odd thing for me to be introducing Margo Tantau, given her veteran status in the podcasting realm, but there you have it. Margo has published over 100 episodes of the iconic Windowsill Chats podcast where she talks about creativity with artists and the artistically inclined. She is warm, practical and extremely generous as she shares the benefits borne of her vast industry and personal experience.

In this very free ranging talk Margo and I exchange tales of the gifts that can be found in the ashes of grief, some unexplained phenomena and the workings of some pivotal relationships in our lives.

See more about Margo at https://www.tantaustudio.com and instagram https://www.instagram.com/windowsillchats/. You can find the full catalogue of her podcast episodes https://www.tantaustudio.com/podcast and the one on which I am interviewed https://www.tantaustudio.com/pod/sophia-cosmas
