近年各地の神社が「パワースポット」として注目を浴び、それを目的として老若男女が参拝している。場所によっては、連日人が押し寄せ、縁結びや運気向上を願っている。あるいは「パワー」を得る為、境内の石に手を当てているような光景もまま見られる。こうした事は、近代以前からあり、神社信仰、文化の一側面ではある。しかし、それに偏重し、それをもって神社の主体のように思うのはいかがなものであろうか。神社に祀られる神々の多くは、過去実在した人物である。百社巡礼でも何度か取り上げた菅原道真公や安倍晴明公はもちろんの事、各地に祀られる氏族の祖神や開拓の祖神もそうであるし、天照大神ですらも実在の人間とする神道家もいる。そうした過去実在した人々は、皆、抜きん出た「パワー」に溢れた人々であり、だからこそ後世に語り継がれる実績を残し、神として祀られて来たのである。鬼や邪神とされた「まつろわぬ民」であっても、時代の趨勢によって敗者となっただけで、同じことである。彼らは皆、時代時代を精一杯生きて、何らかの大きな結果を出したのだ。今を生きる我々は、彼らを祀る神社でただ「パワー」を貰おうとするのではなく、彼らを畏怖し、目標として、自らも「パワー」溢れる存在となり、精一杯生きて行く必要があるのではなかろうか。神社における「パワー」の意義を再考。

島根の県庁所在地・松江市北部、島根半島の中程に、出雲国二宮・佐太神社が鎮座する。全国の神々が出雲に集う旧暦十月「神無月」も、出雲では「神在月」となり、出雲大社では「神在祭」が行われるが、ここ佐太神社にも、神々が集うと言われ、「神在祭」が行われる。佐太神社に神々が集う理由は、奥の山に神々の母・イザナミノミコトが葬られており、「法事」を行うためだという。その先触れを告げるのが、毎年秋になると海流に乗って出雲へやって来る海蛇「龍蛇様」だ。蛇は、世界中の伝承で、永遠の生命の象徴とされる。それは、男性器に似た形状に由来するという。男性器は子孫を生み出すものであり、それを通じて、過去の祖先と、未来の子孫に繋がっていると。それ故に永遠の象徴だと。その永遠の象徴たる「龍蛇様」が、あの世から祖先神を連れてきて、子孫の神々と再会する。それが毎年繰り返される。この繰り返しによって、永遠の時が紡がれる。それが神在祭なのだという。これは「死と再生」という、世界中の多くの宗教が中心に据えたテーマである。神々の国・出雲で、その真髄を見る。語り:高橋御山人 聞き役:盛池雄峰

平成25年に式年遷宮が行われた、伊勢の神宮。それが内宮・外宮より成ることは一般にも知られているが、その他に多くの別宮・摂末所管社があり、全て合わせると125社となる。由来は様々だが、その多くは、神宮創祀の際、地元の神が従って、神宮に土地の譲渡や貢納を約束する話となっている。その別宮の一つ伊雑宮が、志摩市に鎮座する。この伊雑宮は、伊勢から離れたリアス式海岸に近いという地理的条件もあって、別宮の一つでありながら、独立的傾向が強かった。明治の神仏分離を経てもなお、北極星の信仰に関わる祭祀が続けられ、江戸時代には、伊雑宮こそが神宮の発祥、中心であるという偽書の発行に関わり、幕府より弾圧を受けるという「まつろわぬ」歴史もある。そもそも伊勢とは、神話の時代に遡れば「まつろわぬ」土地だった。また、中世においても「まつろわぬ」ものの噴出する土地であった。朝廷、国家の宗教的中心地に、なぜ「まつろわぬ」要素があるのか。事象の「裏側」から見た、伊勢というものの深層を掘り下げる。語り:高橋御山人 聞き役:盛池雄峰
