The salvation of the soul is probably one of the most misunderstood concepts in the church today. Most people think that the salvation of the spirit and the salvation of the soul are the same thing, even though the Scriptures tell us something different. The salvation of a person’s spirit is very simple. Acts 16:30-31 tells us: "30) 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?' 31) So they said, 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.'" The salvation of the spirit is based on the finished work of our savior Jesus Christ at Calvary.

Edwards was a Christian reformer, theologian, and author in the Calvinist tradition, and in this work he explores the necessity of divine grace for the redeeming of the damaged will of humanity. He contends that free will is an extension of, and connected to, the grace of God.

We've boiled down the message of Christianity to being imperfect people who have been forgiven. But what if the message isn't just about what Christ has done for us - forgiving our sins so we can go to heaven one day - but also about what he has done to us? Life is filled with shame, guilt, sin, and hurt. These things have convinced us that we're flawed, we're not enough, and that something is uniquely wrong with who we are. And quite honestly, we look to Christianity for help and the message we often hear leaves us disappointed, doubtful, and disillusioned.
