Five days before the attempted assassination of President Trump, I sat down with Kenneth Valentine, three-time presidential secret service agent and author of "Cheating Death". Ken and I quite forbiddingly discussed when 'Murphy comes and visits the operation". We discussed the importance of standards and the importance of having a mindset of "direction over perfection". Ken and I discussed faith, and the journey of having a relationship with God. We discussed "wound care" and leadership and how we navigate this thing called life. Since the assassination attempt Ken has been sought after to provide insight and commentary of the incident, all of which he has done quite admirably. I had an awesome conversation with RCMP Officer Mark Bouchard. Mark and I get into his book "Setting My Sights On Stigma" and do a deep dive on culture, sleep, creating boundaries, and priorities and so much more!!!! My passion is helping police officers and first responders prepare for the emotional and psychological challenges of the job.

I developed this passion after sustaining my own psychological injury, as I was diagnosed with PTSD in 2015. Since then, I have spent years working on healing myself. Now my goal is to help other first responders, by reducing mental health stigma, and by teaching what has helped me to heal.

I have 17 years of experience in policing, with the Delta Police Department, and the RCMP. I have 10 years of experience in tactical policing, with two different Emergency Response Teams (SWAT), along with a decade as a tactical medic with an advanced care scope of practice. In 2024, I received a promotion into the RCMP’s National Tactical Medicine Program.

I also have many years experience on multiple peer support teams. I have completed a master’s degree in leadership with a research focus on police culture and the impacts on police officer mental health. I have combined that lived experience and research into my book Setting My Sights on Stigma: Thoughts From An Injured Mind, which is available now on Amazon.
