The history of the Preakness is interesting that while it's the 150th running of the Preakness Stakes this year and the Derby was the 151st running, the Preakness actually ran two years before the Kentucky Derby, when Pimlico introduced its new stakes race for three-year-olds in 1873.

  • Sherlock Holmes, The Adventure of Silver Blaze.
    2025/06/10

In this episode we feature "The Adventure of Silver Blaze", one of the 56 Sherlock Holmes short stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is the first from the 12 in the cycle collected as The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. It was first published in The Strand Magazine in December 1892.[1]

Doyle considered "Silver Blaze" among his favourite Sherlock Holmes stories.[2] One of the most popular Sherlock Holmes short stories, "Silver Blaze" focuses on the disappearance of the eponymous race horse (a famous winner, owned by a Colonel Ross) on the eve of an important race and on the apparent murder of its trainer. The tale is distinguished by its atmospheric Dartmoor setting and late-Victorian sporting milieu. The plotting hinges on the "curious incident of the dog in the night-time", Read by Myron Hieronymous Thomas.

  • The History of The Declaration of Independence
    2025/06/30

In this episode we feature The History of The Declaration of Independence found in the pages of the National Archive Web site. The Declaration of Independence was designed for multiple audiences: the King, the colonists, and the world. It was also designed to multitask. Its goals were to rally the troops, win foreign allies, and to announce the creation of a new country. The introductory sentence states the Declaration’s main purpose, to explain the colonists’ right to revolution. In other words, “to declare the causes which impel them to the separation.” Congress had to prove the legitimacy of its cause. It had just defied the most powerful nation on Earth. It needed to motivate foreign allies to join the fight. - Americas National Archive. Read by Myron Hieronymous Thomas.
