  • Navigating the Social Norms vs Natural Regulation
    2025/02/14

EP: 128 Our kids' head-banging, rocking, and constant movement aren't just concerning behaviors - they're natural ways they're trying to regulate their nervous systems. As a mom of preemies, I know how much deep pressure and sensory input my babies needed to soothe and settle.

Things like pacifiers and thumb-sucking aren't just social norms, they're our kids' innate ways of calming their developing brains and bodies. Instead of stripping away these natural regulation methods, we need to observe the patterns, support their needs, and create space for their incredible ability to self-regulate. It's a journey, but so worth it for their long-term mental health. • Reclaiming Your Unfiltered and Authentic Self
    2025/02/07

EP:127 As I shared, feeling like you're "too much" is a core wound that affects so many of us. It leads us to create a performative reality, dampening our light and abandoning our true selves. Growing up, I learned to function according to societal norms, but I found my truest self could only shine when I was on stage, dancing. That freedom and authenticity was so liberating, yet so rare in my everyday life.

Even in my relationships, I often became a mirror for others' issues, rather than honoring my own worth. It wasn't until I became a solo parent during COVID that I had a breakthrough - I realized I had to be my own mirror, my own support. Understanding our nervous systems is key - it allows us to embrace our unique selves, rather than trying to fit a mold.

The more we live boldly and authentically, the more we'll inspire others. It's not easy to overcome the fear of being "too much," but the rewards are immense. I encourage you to take risks, say the things you're afraid to say, and let your light shine. Your value doesn't decrease based on others' inability to see your worth. Embrace all that you are - it's your greatest gift.

    Xoxo,

    Dr.B

  • Losing Your Temper with Your Kids
    2025/01/31

EP:126 Hey friends! I just recorded a new episode of the Thrive Like a Parent podcast all about losing your temper with your kids. As a mom, I know how hard this can be - we all have those moments where we just feel like we're at the end of our rope. But I want you to know that it doesn't make you a bad parent. It just means you need to take care of yourself, whether that's taking a break, practicing self-care, or finding healthy ways to manage your emotions.

In this episode, I get real about my own struggles with traditional "play" activities, and how I've learned to connect with my kids in my own unique way. I also share my honest thoughts on some popular parenting experts and methods - not everything works for every family, and that's okay!

The key is being kind to yourself, setting boundaries, and making time for your own mental health. When we do that, we can show up as calmer, more regulated parents. I hope this episode gives you the validation and encouragement you need. You're doing an amazing job, even on the tough days. Sending you all my love!

  • Sex and Intimacy within a Partnership
    2025/01/24
EP:125 Hi Friends! I've noticed a pattern with my clients - many struggle with intimacy and sex within their marriages or partnerships. This is a topic that isn't openly discussed, but it's so important. Intimacy should be a deep, mutual connection - not a one-sided experience where one partner's needs are neglected. I've heard too many stories of intimacy feeling like a chore, rather than a pleasurable, regulating experience for both people. I want to empower you to advocate for your own needs when it comes to intimacy. Your body, your choice. You deserve to feel comfortable, respected, and mutually satisfied. Don't be afraid to have an open conversation with your partner about your desires and boundaries. Your wellbeing should be the priority, not just meeting your partner's needs. You have the right to prioritize your own pleasure and regulation.

  • Supporting Each Other Through Struggles
    2025/01/17

EP:124 Hi friends! this episode was a doozy, let me tell you. I dove headfirst into some major home renovations during my winter break, and let me just say - the dust, the fumes, the chaos, it was a lot to handle! But you know what, my amazing neighbor was so kind to let me and the family stay at her place for a week, which was a total lifesaver. It gave me the space I needed to recharge and reconnect with my partner, Carter. He's been such a rock for me through all of this. When I was really struggling, he stepped up and made sure I got the time and support I needed, whether that was pushing me out the door for some alone time or planning a surprise date night. It's made me realize how important it is to have that kind of partnership, where you can lean on each other when times get tough. I'm so grateful for him, and I hope all of you can foster that same level of support in your relationships.

    Xoxo, Dr.B

  • The Secret to Lasting Nervous System Regulation
    2025/01/10

EP:123 Hi friends, I'm so excited to share a powerful insight with you today - the fastest way to regulate your nervous system is NOT control, fixing, or jumping into action. In fact, those strategies often backfire and perpetuate stress. Instead, I'll show you how to build a larger window of tolerance, so you can stay calm and present, even when life gets chaotic.

No more meltdowns or irritability - just more peace, connection, and joy. This is life-changing stuff, and I can't wait to share it with you. Through my Thrive programs, I've seen firsthand how this approach can transform lives. When we learn to manage our stress response, everything shifts. We become more patient, more present, and better able to show up for ourselves and our loved ones.

If you're ready to ditch the stress and cultivate more calm, this is for you. It's not always easy, but the rewards are profound. I'll guide you through the process, step-by-step, so you can reclaim your power and thrive, no matter what life throws your way. Stay tuned, my friends, and get ready to experience the freedom that comes from a regulated nervous system. It's a game-changer, I promise!

  • Small Sustainable Changes to Thrive in 2025
    2025/01/03

EP:122 New Year's resolutions are total BS. I'm done with the pressure to completely overhaul my life overnight. Instead, I'm focusing on making small, sustainable changes that I can stick to all year long. No more crash diets or extreme makeovers - just gentle, consistent progress. This year, I'm embracing the Kaizen method - taking one small step at a time towards my goals. Whether it's saving a little more, eating a bit healthier, or improving my relationships, I know lasting change happens gradually. I'm giving myself grace and celebrating tiny wins, not beating myself up over setbacks. This is my year to thrive, not just survive. No more January blues or post-holiday hangovers. I'm listening to my body and brain, throttling my energy levels, and trusting the process. Slow and steady progress is where it's at!

  • Is Fear Holding You Back From Embracing Authenticity?
    2024/12/27

EP:121 As we navigate the holidays, I want to talk about the power of authenticity. It can be so hard to show up as our true selves, especially around family.

I know from my own experience that being authentic is scary - there’s fear of rejection, abandonment, and judgment. But when we don’t embrace who we really are, it can lead to anxiety, depression, and a deep sense of disconnection.

I’ve had to work hard to break free from the patterns I learned growing up, where I played the “class clown” to keep the peace. Even now, I have to remind myself to own my opinions and needs, even if it makes my family uncomfortable.

But you know what? It’s so worth it. When we have the courage to be ourselves, it opens the door to more meaningful connections and self-love. That’s the greatest gift this season.

So my challenge to you is to trust the discomfort, and know that you are worthy of showing up as your true self. Whether that’s skipping the big gathering or ordering pizza instead of the Honey Baked Ham - do what feels right for you.

Wishing you all a holiday filled with authenticity and self-compassion.

    XOXO, Dr. B
