  • Ep. 10 - Expanding Your Capacity To Receive With Amber Lilyestrom
    2021/08/04

Today’s guest, Amber Lilyestrom, and this episode, which is all about expanding our capacity to receive, is probably one of my all time favorite conversations that I’ve had on any podcast.

I went back and listened to the episode again and I was just in awe. It’s real. It’s vulnerable. It’s honest. And it’s transformative in so many ways.

I can’t help but to think that so many people are going to listen to this episode and not only feel more empowered in their own lives, but also going to walk away feeling more seen and less alone—especially less alone inside of your grief and inside of your pain and inside of your loss.

What I love about Amber and what she does so well in this podcast is that she articulates what it looks like to hold pain consciously.

Amber is actually very brave and opens up about a loss her and her family have experienced more recently and in the midst of so much grief, and anger, and loss, she does such a beautiful job at articulating what it looks like to hold pain consciously and goes on to explain why it’s so important and what it has to do in regards to expanding our capacity to receive in life.

I’ve been following Amber for years now and she is someone that I have always admired and respected and her work has just had a profound impact on my life and I can’t help but to think that, regardless of where you’re at in life, you’re going to walk away with something magical.

Because that’s what Amber does and just who she is.

  • Ep 8 - Dr. Caroline Leaf - Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess
    2021/07/21

Welcome back to another episode of You're Doing A Good Job. Today on the show, I had a chance to sit down and talk to Dr. Caroline Leaf about her new book, Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess.

Dr. Leaf holds a very special place in my heart and you’ll hear about it it at the beginning of the episode, but after this podcast and having the chance to sit and talk with her more, I just have the utmost respect and adoration for her. The work that she has dedicated her life has not only changed my life but I know it has changed the lives of so many others.

And, I say this with 100% confidence, I know that it can also change your life.

You know, when I first started this healing journey after walking away from the NFL, I came across a quote by Victor Frankl, and maybe you’ve heard it, but it says between stimulus and response is a space and in that space is the power to choose our response. And, in our response, lies our growth and freedom.

That’s so powerful and I bring up that quote because alot of what Dr. Leaf’s book, Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess and also this podcast episode is about is essentially the step by step process on how you can began to recognize that sliver of space between stimulus and response in your own life and begin to choose your response in a way that is conducive to the life that you actually want to live.

To sum it all up in a sentence, it’s really all about learning how to take back the power to your life.

In her book, Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess, Dr. Leaf breaks down the five action-oriented steps called the Neurocycle, that will help you eliminate the root of anxiety, depression and intrusive thoughts so that you can begin to build a healthy new and automated neural network inside of your brain.

It’s powerful, powerful, powerful. We hear all about you know, doing the work, and this is the work. Literally, the playbook of how to do the work.

And if you don’t know, Dr. Leaf is a communication pathologist and a cognitive neuroscientist and what I love about her is that she has the uncanny ability to take the very complex science and all the intricacies around what is happening in our brains as we are not only traumatized, or experience trauma in life, but also as we are healing and she is able to break it down in a way that enables you to comprehend, and understand and to see more clearly what is actually happening.

Another cool thing that you should know is that Dr. Leaf was one of the first in her field to study how the brain can change with directed mind input. She has helped hundreds of thousands of students and adults learn how to use t heir mind to detox and grow their brain, helping them succeed in every area of their lives, including school, university and the workplace.

Honestly, it’s funny to me because the last thing that I was expecting in life was to find what I would call my soul partner. And it’s interesting to me because as I look back at the last decade of my life, all of the work that I had been doing really was to create space to invite love in. All of the healing and the letting go and the grieving and doing the work, it was creating the space in my life to invite love in.

And that’s what we are talking about today. Today’s guest is Amber Kelleher-Andrews and she is a leading relationship expert & CEO of the #1 matchmaking firm in the world Kelleher International.

  • Ep. 4 - Running Into The Unknown with Joe Hawley
    2021/06/09

What is up everyone and welcome back to You’re Doing A Good Job. And, in case you don’t know, my name is Caleb and I’m your host.

Here just recently, I had a chance to sit down with an 8 year NFL veteran Joe Hawley.

And now before you jump to conclusions about this podcast and this conversation, let me just say that Joe is arguably one of the more self-aware people that I have had the chance to sit down and talk with. Not only that, but Joe’s journey after football is a journey of courage and a journey that I believe we can all learn something from.

So, I just want to clearly state that this conversation has very little do with football and everything to do with what it looks like to not only find the courage to run into the unknowns of our life but how we can thrive in that season of life.

On this episode, Joe and I talk about:

    • What it looks like to belong in life
    • What it looks like to separate our identity and our value from our performance in life
    • What it looks like to balance the masculine and famine energies inside each of us or how Joe likes to refer to it is how to balance the creator and the performer in all of us.
    • Deconstructing God
    • Joe really does a great job at breaking down what it looks like to not only run into the unknowns of life, but how to thrive in that season.

  • Ep. 3 - Learning How To Model Emotional and Behavioral Health with Dr. Regine Galanti
    2021/06/02

Here just recently, I had a chance to sit down with Dr. Regine Galanti who is a licensed psychologist specializing in the assessment and treatment of individuals with anxiety and OCD and we had a simple but yet powerful conversation on what it looks like to reclaim your life through the lens of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I really loved this conversations for so many different reasons, especially since cognitive behavioral therapy really played a big role in my own life, but also because Dr. Galanti does such a great job at taking different experiences in life that can be so overwhelming and debilitating and she breaks it down and offers us a solution or really a map on how we can begin to better navigate those experiences.

This conversation is great for anyone that is trying to better understand the road ahead of them when it comes to the journey of emotional wellness and overall behavioral health.

To get a little bit more specific, on this episode we talk about:

    • The importance of modeling emotional wellness to the young people in our lives so that they can begin to model it in their own life.
    • The power of self-awareness and mindfulness and how you can begin to practice them
    • The importance of keeping an emotion journal and how to do that
    • Why self-compassion is your super power and how you can begin to better practice it on your journey to emotional health

This conversation really is powerful in a sense that it provides us with a foundation to stand on as we begin to navigate our journey into emotional wellness and behavioral health.

And just so that you know, Dr. Galanti specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Parent Child interaction Therapy and she is the founder of Long Island Behavioral Psychology, a therapy practice in Nassau County Long Island and she is also the author, and this how I found her, the author of Anxiety Relief for teens: Essential CBT skills and mindfulness practices to overcome anxiety and stress. She is also a very highly sought out speaker who has been quoted in The Washington Post, Self Magazine and Buzzfeed, among others.

Lastly, can I ask a big favor? If you find this episode useful in any way, it would mean the world to me if you left a review on my podcast as well as share this episode with one friend that you might think would benefit from it.

That would be so so helpful.
