A biblical anthropologist sheds new light on Paul and the first Jesus communities. Paul belonged to that generation of the Jesus movement, which stood between the Jesus group and the Evangelists. His seven undisputed letters make it clear that Paul considered himself to be an Israelite prophet sent by God to Israelites who were residing among non-Israelites, the "Gentiles", who believed in Jesus. Paul considered them to be like branches grafted to Israel, the true root (Rom 11:24).

Dr. John Pilch, professor at Georgetown University, utilizing his lifetime of research and years of teaching experience examines the impact of Paul as a world-class agent of change. Paul, convinced of his call coming directly from God, stepped onto the world stage and became an instrument for change in the religious perspectives of humanity. Fr. Donald Senior, cp, paints a picture of Mary as the premier disciple of Christ. He gives his listeners a deeper look into the life of Mary by focusing on the Gospel writer's individual, yet diverse, portraits of her within the historical biblical context. By studying the various Marian passages that are within the Gospels, along with parallel passages of Jesus, he weaves a multi-faceted approach to Mary, both in the New Testament and in the Christian life.

In two presentations, Dr. Riley addresses the grieving process and describes steps for grief recovery. The use of a loss-graph and relationship-graph foster healing of emotional hurts and other issues that remain from unfinished emotional grieving. Safe exercises for a person to work alone or with a grief partner are described. In these talks, Dr. Riley provides many helpful examples as well as an outline for personal use.

Jesuit Father William Sneck is an expert on the human struggle with shame, guilt, and anger. 1. Shame is feeling worthless, rejected and unloved. 2. Guilt believes that one has done something irreversibly bad. 3. Anger, as a result of these struggles, can generally be one of the most destructive emotions of the human spirit. Fr. Sneck has been conducting weekend workshops and retreats concerning the emotions of guilt, shame and anger.

Sr. Carole attempts to address the painful reality of denying denial. Denial is basically a defense mechanism in which a person is faced with facts that are too uncomfortable to accept and ultimately rejects them, insisting that they are not true, despite what may be overwhelming evidence to the contrary. The concept of denying of denial involves thoughts, actions and behaviors, which bolster confidence that nothing needs to be changed in one's personal behavior.

In Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians, he says: “Be angry and sin not.” How do we live this Christian admonition? How do we attain spiritual growth in struggle, in conflict, and with feelings that overwhelm us? Carole Riley, C.D.P., Ph.D., looks at conflict as a Eucharistic engagement. When we apply the skills and techniques she discusses in this presentation, we may better understand the mystery of life and reach harmony.
